Zara McDermott reveals she’s ‘taking a step back’ from ‘negative’ social media just days after boyfriend Louis Tomlinson and ex Sam Thompson’s feud was exposed

Zara McDermott announced that she is temporarily distancing herself from social media platforms, following a series of unfavorable interactions, specifically in the aftermath of her boyfriend Louis Tomlinson‘s public spat with his former friend Sam Thompson.

28-year-old celebrity from Strictly, sharing on her Instagram Stories, wrote an extended message after TopMob broke the news of One Direction member, aged 33, reportedly dismissing Sam, 32 (former Made In Chelsea star), following the conclusion of Soccer Aid.

Zara made her relationship with Louis official in March, having ended her five-year romance with the winner of “I’m A Celebrity” on New Year’s Day.

On social media, she expressed gratitude towards her fans for their support during the release of her recent documentary. She then announced that she will be stepping away temporarily to focus more on being present.

She wrote: ‘I wanted to express my gratitude to all who reached out regarding the story I shared the other day. For those who missed it, I discussed planning my upcoming documentary and pondering over ways to address domestic abuse, coercive control, and tech abuse in the project.’

Despite having numerous messages to go through, I wanted to express my deepest gratitude. Engaging with everyone has been truly enjoyable as it allows me to reconnect with you all, especially since I’ve been dedicating more time to my documentaries and other projects, and trying to be more mindful in general.

I’ll admit, social media can often feel burdensome and filled with negativity at times. But when we come together to create something genuinely uplifting, it’s an extraordinary sensation! Thank you once more for your continued support in my endeavors. Your unwavering encouragement truly means the world to me.

In a video acquired by TopMob at Old Trafford on Sunday, Louis was spotted showing affection towards players and staff from both teams, followed by a television interview.

Instead, the singer didn’t acknowledge Sam upon his arrival, shifting his focus elsewhere and displaying a displeased expression, subsequently greeting other celebrities participating in Soccer Aid.

It was expected that there would be an uncomfortable situation between them, as Louis began dating Zara not long after both were named in the Soccer Aid teams.

Despite Sam and Louis seemingly trying to quell rumors of a feud by keeping their distance during Soccer Aid practice sessions and the game, a fan-recorded video suggests that tension between them persists.

A source mentioned: ‘Louis was observed giving a warm greeting to every teammate from both teams, with one exception being Sam. Furthermore, his quick look-away upon noticing him speaks volumes.’

In the charitable setting, neither Louis nor Sam allowed their feelings to overpower them, as they both focused on their goal – raising funds. However, it’s evident that there’s a strained relationship between them.

At the charity event, Louis and Sam maintained their composure, prioritizing fundraising over emotions. Their history suggests they don’t hold warm feelings for each other.

During the preparation for the Soccer Aid match held at Champneys in Tring, they purposely maintained a distance from one another during training sessions, and at Old Trafford, they were positioned on opposite sides of the changing room to minimize any potential friction or tension between them.

Ahead of last weekend’s match that raised an incredible sum of more than £15 million for UNICEF, I learned from The Sun that Sam and Louis were present at a team-building event held at our hotel, aiming to alleviate any potential tensions within the squad.

Sam managed to collect more than two million pounds for charity by participating in a tough endeavor: walking and cycling a total of 260 miles from Stamford Bridge in West London to Old Trafford in Manchester, carrying the Soccer Aid match ball along the way.

As a lifestyle expert, I’d put it this way: Despite successfully accomplishing the task at hand, I ended up with quite a few bumps and bruises that unfortunately prevented me from shining as brightly as I would have liked during the main event. The harsh reality of pushing myself to my limits became all too clear.

During the match, neither the English teammates shared the playing field simultaneously, as it ultimately ended in victory for the Rest of the World squad. After the half-time break, Louis was substituted out, while Sam entered the game with just a few minutes left on the clock.

On his podcast, Staying Relevant, which he co-hosts with his good friend Pete Wicks, Sam talked about getting past a challenging beginning of the year by fully dedicating himself to his Soccer Aid mission.

Sam clarified: “I’ve rarely felt both incredibly low and extremely high simultaneously… However, I must admit that mentally, I can’t recall a more opportune moment for me to take action.

On Thursday, I discarded a great deal along that road, I let go of much there, and it was undoubtedly one of the most liberating mental experiences I’ve encountered throughout my lifetime.

On an extended journey, I found myself traversing the Welsh border on foot and bicycle for hours on end, eventually reaching Liverpool. As someone who can gab a bit, let me tell you, this challenge tested my limits. It required every ounce of focus and determination to push through.

During a significant portion of this past year, I found myself traversing that same road, with no words spoken for nearly an hour and a half. For the entire duration, I was pedaling my bike while shedding tears uncontrollably, my face a river of sorrow, experiencing a cycling journey like none other before.

‘I have never felt so emotionally depleted but also at peace.’
