Showgirls star Gina Gershon reveals she almost BROKE Tom Cruise’s nose when he tickled her during sex scene for 1988 classic Cocktail

In simpler terms, Gina Gershon shared an account of an unexpected incident where she nearly injured Tom Cruise by playfully tickling him during a love scene, causing him some discomfort.

63-year-old actress who played in Showgirls co-starred with the 62-year-old actor from Mission: Impossible on the 1988 film, Cocktail. It was during this movie that she experienced her initial love scene together with him on camera for the first time.

Yet, events unfolded differently than anticipated. At that time, Gina, being in her twenties, found herself in a precarious situation where she feared her burgeoning Hollywood career might be at an end due to an injury she inflicted on the renowned Tom.

In a later moment, she remembered that Tom was supposed to stay hidden beneath the blankets prior to the explicit sequence, yet he unexpectedly surfaced. However, she had previously advised him not to tease or tickle her since she has a strong sensitivity to it.

Yet, it was an accident as Tom touched her waist and unknowingly tickled her, resulting in her reflexively striking out, coming close to fracturing his nose.

In an interview with The Guardian, she stated: “Just as we were about to film, he was below me and playfully tickled my waist. Unintentionally, I reacted instinctively, jabbing my knee into his nose.

Upon seeing the abundance of blood, I thought to myself, “I must have broken Tom Cruise’s nose. My acting career in Hollywood is now over.

‘I was mortified because I really kicked him good, I didn’t mean to.’

Initially worried about her job, Gina found that Tom, a considerate man, maintained it was his own fault. She had previously alerted him, and throughout the situation, she described him as both kind-hearted and gracious towards her.

Regardless of the incident, Gina expressed her satisfaction about shooting her initial sex scene with Tom, emphasizing that he was exceptionally ‘caring’ towards her and took steps to make her comfortable throughout the process.

Following Tom, we trailed behind the character Brian Flanagan, fresh from his military service, who was simultaneously chasing a business degree and mixing drinks as a bartender in Manhattan.

Before uncovering that his friend had been romantically involved with his interest, Coral, he first picked up skills from his business partner, Doug.

Subsequently, Brian relocates to Jamaica and encounters Jordan (Elisabeth Shue). A romantic connection develops between them, yet Brian persists in overcoming obstacles to follow his initial aspirations.

Despite receiving negative reviews from critics, I found myself part of a massive audience who appreciated the movie, as it raked in an impressive $78.2 million domestically (equivalent to $207.6 million when adjusted for inflation by 2024). Globally, the earnings swelled to an astounding $171.5 million ($455.4 million in 2024), securing the ninth spot on the year-end box office top 10 list.

Additionally, Gina has shared that her representatives suggested she avoid portraying a lesbian character in the 1996 neo-noir crime drama, Bound.

In the Wachowski-directed movie, Gina, aged 62, portrayed a former police officer who was involved in a romantic relationship with Jennifer Tilly’s character, and she was a past lesbian.

On the It Happened In Hollywood podcast, Gina revealed that her agents advised against taking the role of Corky, going so far as to warn her that playing this character could jeopardize her prospects for a thriving acting career.

Despite their counsel, I found myself captivated by the script and the vision of the filmmakers. Ignoring their guidance, I boldly decided to be a part of the cast, fueled by my unwavering passion for the project.

As I reflected on the captivating screenplay and sensed the undeniable talent of the directors, my agents cautioned, “Regrettably, we can’t allow you to star in this film. Your career is at risk. We won’t be able to manage your representation if you proceed. Your chances of future opportunities may vanish.

Unfazed by their comments, Gina responded with a casual shrug, “Well, I suppose if you can’t help me out, I might need to look elsewhere. No ill will intended.

As a devoted admirer, I too found it problematic that the movie was being labeled solely as a “lesbian film,” as it delved into much broader themes.

As a lifestyle expert, I’d like to emphasize that it’s narrow-minded to label a film as “a lesbian movie.” Instead, it’s essential to remember that these characters, who just so happen to be lesbians, are complex individuals with their unique stories and experiences. Let’s focus on the artistry and humanity within the cinematic work itself rather than simplifying it by its characters’ sexual orientations.

‘They happen to be into women, but it’s really a movie about trust.

A more significant problem arises, and I found it incredibly narrow-minded and short-sighted. Frankly, if that’s the kind of challenge we are facing, count me in!
