The Split star announced with cast for Netflix’s exciting adaptation of classic Australian period drama
Actress Anna Chancellor, famously known for her role as ‘The Split’ star, has officially joined the cast for Netflix’s rendition of a timeless Australian period drama.
The actress who portrayed Melanie Aickman in the second and third series of BBC’s courtroom drama has been cast in a talented ensemble for the upcoming Netflix adaptation of Miles Franklin’s 1901 novel, “My Brilliant Career.
As a literature enthusiast, I recently delved into a captivating tale that originally graced our screens as a film back in 1979. This story revolves around me, Sybylla Melvyn, a young woman dwelling amidst the rustic beauty of Australia during the late 1800s. Caught between the pages of my dreams and the rigid confines of society, I yearn to be a writer, yet find myself repeatedly obstructed by societal norms.

According to what’s mentioned in “About Netflix“, Chancellor will be working alongside Philippa Northeast and Christopher Chung. In this production, Chancellor takes on the role of Mrs Bossier, while Northeast plays Sybylla and Chung portrays Harry Beecham. The ensemble also features Genevieve O’Reilly, Kate Mulvany, and Jake Dunn.
In simple terms, Liz Doran will work collaboratively with Sarinah Masukor and Rachael Turk to create, manage the production of, and contribute to writing the TV series. Additionally, Alyssa McClelland and Anne Renton will jointly direct each of the six episodes in the series.
As a gamer, I’ve been truly fortunate to collaborate with an array of exceptional artists and storytellers on the reinvention of Miles Franklin’s thrilling saga about a spirited girl’s journey towards defining her personal destiny. This is what I expressed in my statement.
I’m overjoyed to be part of introducing this Australian gem to a fresh wave of viewers,” I expressed, sharing my excitement. “Collaborating with Netflix and producers Liz and Alyssa, while Philippa breathes life into our spirited and quick-witted Sybylla, feels like living out a cherished fantasy.
Minyoung Kim, Netflix’s Vice President for APAC Content, expressed her eagerness about the prospect of re-telling Franklin’s classic tale onscreen again. She noted that the book’s topics remain significant and applicable in today’s times.
Currently, “My Brilliant Career” is underway with filming in Adelaide. On the other hand, Chancellor has recently made an appearance on television screens as part of U’s “Outrageous”, a six-part series that delves into the true tale of the Mitford sisters and their family during a historical period.
My Brilliant Career has no release date. Outrageous is streaming now on U.
