paiN Gaming make top 4 at the Austin Major

At BLAST.tv’s Austin Major 2025, we witnessed a fierce Brazilian showdown, as paiN Gaming squared off against FURIA Esports in the second round of the playoffs.

As a devoted fan, I eagerly watched as paiN Gaming and FURIA stepped onto the stage at the BLAST.tv Austin Major 2025. Their tournament futures hung in the balance with a single elimination bracket governing the playoffs. With just one opportunity to advance, they were both determined to seize it.

Following an exhilarating series between MOUZ and Team Spirit that opened the Major, paiN and FURIA faced off next. The victor would secure a spot in the semi-finals, where they’d encounter either FaZe Clan or The MongolZ, their upcoming adversary yet to be determined.

For both teams, paiN and FURIA, there hasn’t been much to celebrate recently. However, FURIA showed a remarkable performance at the recent PGL Astana 2025, securing fourth place. Conversely, paiN has yet to deliver any standout performances this year. Their best achievement was placing fifth to eighth at PGL Cluj-Napoca 2025 in February.

Keeping this in perspective, two top-tier South American squads squared off against each other. Given the circumstances, only one team could advance, resulting in an exhilarating matchup between formidable Brazilian opponents.

paiN Gaming vs FURIA: Maps, details, and the results

Maps

As the series commenced, both teams were well aware that a best-of-three match was their last hurdle to reaching the top 4, or facing elimination. The selection of maps would be crucial for the two Brazilian teams, and thus, they made the following selections:

• paiN removed Train
• FURIA removed Ancient
• paiN picked Nuke
• FURIA picked Anubis
• FURIA removed Mirage
• paiN removed Dust2
• Inferno was left over

paiN Gaming wins a thrilling Brazilian battle

On the map Nuke preferred by paiN, FURIA started off aggressively. Winning the initial pistol round on the Counter-Terrorist side, they dominated the first half. Although paiN regained a few rounds later, the control of the map never shifted from FURIA. Eventually, FURIA clinched victory in the second half, winning the map decisively with a score of 13-6.

On Map 2, FURIA’s selection, it appeared that paiN found their stride at last. Anubis observed as the team fought valiantly for nine rounds during the second half, hinting at a potential tie in the series. Remarkable performances by David “dav1deUS” Maldonado placed paiN in an advantageous position. However, after FURIA switched to the Terrorist side, things momentarily seemed to go awry for paiN. Yet, they managed to keep their composure and clinched a 13-8 win on Map 2.

Following an impressive performance by Anubis from paiN, their luck soured on Inferno when map 3 started. FURIA claimed the first six rounds without any opposition. However, paiN refused to concede defeat, fighting back from a seemingly hopeless situation to make it 5-7 before the switch. The second half saw a transformed paiN team, determined to reverse the game’s outcome. With FURIA on the verge of losing, they rallied and forced overtime.

In overtime, paiN showed their aggressive side, overwhelmingly controlling the game against FURIA, leading to an almost inevitable win. However, their triumph was momentarily thwarted in regular time. Yet, overtime proved effortless for them as they ultimately clinched a significant victory.

Results

Since mid-2024, paiN hasn’t finished in the top 4 of any CS2 S-tier tournament. However, they have managed to advance to the semi-finals of the BLAST.tv Austin Major 2025. For now, the team can enjoy a brief respite before they learn who their next opponents will be – it could either be FaZe Clan or The MongolZ.

On June 20th, I’m all set for another thrilling day at the BLAST.tv Austin Major! Today, Team Vitality squares off against Natus Vincere, while FaZe goes head-to-head with The MongolZ. Can’t wait to see the action unfold!
