Saw series gets an exciting update following new movie’s cancellation: “Game on”

It’s now clear what lies ahead for the “Saw” series, as fans had expressed worry that another installment in the series might not be produced.

This year, production on the 11th movie from the brutal torture series was halted due to creative differences at the studio level, causing delays.

Now, the saga has been partially acquired by Blumhouse after a long negotiation.

The franchise is being handed back over to James Wan and Leigh Whannell, the original directors and writers of the successful film from the late 1990s/early 2000s.

Last year, Wan’s personal production company Atomic Monster combined forces with Blumhouse, becoming renowned for generating some highly lucrative horror movies in recent times. Notable among these are the films M3GAN and the Conjuring series.

Currently, Whannell is associated with a horror movie production company through a business agreement. This partnership finances his directorial ventures, such as the impressive reimagining of Dark Universe titled “The Invisible Man”.

After the initial “Saw” film proved successful, Lionsgate, the distributor, sealed a nine-movie agreement with Twisted Pictures. As part of this arrangement, the production company was willing to relinquish some ownership shares. This shift paves the way for an intriguing future for the franchise, as Wan and Whannell may reprise their creative roles.

In his statement (through The Hollywood Reporter), Wan expressed that this new project represents his creative comeback to the Saw franchise since its early stages. He’s eagerly anticipating staying true to the original essence while also innovatively advancing the series in surprising and daring manners.

Jason Blum, CEO and founder of Blumhouse Productions, suggested that Wan and Whannell may return for future installments, implying they will be involved in steering the storyline.

Lionsgate will keep handling the distribution of these movies, as they hold a portion of the rights to the property as well.

As James, who initially set this course of action, along with Jason and the Blumhouse team, takes over (the project), Billy feels it’s in the most capable and peculiar hands possible. It’s game time!
