American Love Story filming blunder SLAMMED by JFK JR fans who beg Ryan Murphy to stop

Ryan Murphy’s ongoing production, titled “American Love Story,” focuses on the romantic tale between John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette, as portrayed in this anthology series.

Immediately upon its reveal, the upcoming project faced strong criticism on social media from fans, only a few days after Ryan presented a sneak peek featuring actors Paul Anthony Kelly as John Jr., and Sarah Pidgeon as Carolyn.

Among the notable mistakes, as pointed out by fans, was the choice of footwear – Sarah donning Converse sneakers during a scene shot on Tuesday in New York City.

I, too, found myself joining the chorus of comments about Sarah’s ensemble, particularly her skirt, leather jacket, and hairstyle. Some even labeled it as ‘provocative’, while another expressed regret towards the late Carolyn, implying a comparison that might not have been intended favorably.

When earlier this week, initial image posts were made, Jack Schlossberg, nephew of JFK Jr., expressed his thoughts in a comment to Ryan, saying directly: “Hey RYAN – while admiration for John is high, perhaps consider DONATING A PORTION OF THE PROCEEDS TO THE KENNEDY LIBRARY instead.

On Thursday, Ryan defended his wardrobe choices in a comment to Variety, stating, “There were comments such as ‘I dislike that coat; Carolyn wouldn’t have worn it. That was just a coat we used for color. People are writing ‘How dare you use the No. 35 Birkin bag? She wore a 40!’ Yes, we do have a 40, but we simply grabbed a bag from another costume department because that was the set we were on at the time.

He mentioned to the media that they’ve opted for vintage items for the show, carefully selecting them to complement the overall aesthetic. Additionally, they plan on manually recreating signs of wear and tear on other handbags.

Ryan stated to Variety, “They’re treating Carolyn the same way they treated the genuine Carolyn. This isn’t right,” he emphasized.

On Tuesdays, Sarah opted for a shimmering golden, knee-length satin skirt paired with a black blouse and a faux-leather jacket, finishing off the look with her trusty Converse sneakers.

One individual posted on what was previously known as Twitter, and they wrote: ‘Someone swiftly say ‘APRIL FOOLS’ since it can’t be Caroline Bessette-Kennedy! In three days, Ryan Murphy, you’ll start coughing.’

The individual posted the picture along with this remark: ‘Those responsible for producing this series ought to feel profoundly ashamed. CBC on Converse… and a faux leather jacket…’

It was generally believed that only the actress’s outfit, not her footwear, would be visible; however, she opted to wear sneakers primarily for comfort.

On TikTok, someone speculated that the person being filmed was intentionally eliciting anger for entertainment purposes, or what is often referred to as “rage bait.” They further expressed their annoyance at the constant filming and stated that the woman’s distinctive style made it unlikely that this wasn’t a deliberate attempt to provoke anger.

Furthermore, it’s worth noting that numerous photos of Carolyn from the ’90s exist, capturing her appearances in various settings. It would be advisable to base her daily attire on these images to ensure an authentic portrayal of her style.

It’s said that Carolyn often wore Converse sneakers, also recognized as Chuck Taylors, while working at Calvin Klein. She typically matched them with skirts and dresses.

On Wednesday evening, the performers were spotted shooting yet another scene, but this time, Sarah was dressed in high heels and a gown.

This week, Ryan Murphy shared a sneak peek at the upcoming American Love Story anthology series he’s working on.

On Friday, the television show creator (who is 59 years old and has just launched the series “All’s Fair” featuring Kim Kardashian) posted pictures and even a trial run video with some main cast members on the Instagram account of Ryan Murphy Productions.

The series is set to begin airing on FX and streaming on Hulu next year in February 2026. 

The American author wrote, “Dear Ryan, I have a deep admiration for John. Perhaps you might want to think about donating your profits to the Kennedy Library as a token of appreciation.

Murphy leaped into the comments section to provide his personal reply to Schlossberg. In a straightforward manner, he said, “@jackuno, I certainly will.

I was absolutely thrilled when Ryan shared a series of photos, showcasing Kelly and Pidgeon transforming into the iconic duo – John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette! The resemblance was uncanny, leaving me in awe!

In a recognizable fashion, Sarah, famed for her role on The Wilds on Amazon Prime Video, was spotted donning a sleek black turtleneck, accompanied by black pants, along with a stylish tan coat.

She put on a pair of black, closed-toed pumps and let her long, platinum-blond hair cascade down beyond her shoulders.

Bessette, previously a renowned fashion publicist for Calvin Klein, was equally admired for her timeless and understated aesthetic.

Paul donned a two-piece, charcoal-hued suit adorned with horizontal lapels, complemented by a crisp white long-sleeved shirt and a striking red-patterned necktie.

In a single shot, he was wearing sunglasses and paused for an outdoor photograph, dressed in a distinct suit.

Kelly adopted an outfit reminiscent of the late JFK Jr., featuring jeans, a green shirt, and a black vest, much like a previous attire he had worn.

In 1992, it was their first encounter between Carolyn and John Kennedy Jr., the son of the late 35th President John F. Kennedy and Jackie Kennedy, as he was involved with actress Daryl Hannah at that time.

Two years after, the relationship between Bessette and Kennedy blossomed, attracting much media attention. They were frequently spotted enjoying time in New York City or attending various functions.

1995 saw Carolyn and John getting engaged privately. They exchanged vows in a heartfelt ceremony held in September of 1996, keeping their union a secret.
