League of Legends is introducing a women-exclusive tournament similar to VALORANT’s Game Changers, under the banner of LGC Rising.
As an ardent enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that I’m seeing Riot Games transform VALORANT’s Game Changers initiative into League of Legends with Game Changers Rising! This exciting development will bring a women’s tournament to the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region, offering more opportunities for female gamers in these regions to shine.
League of Legends Game Changers
In the realm of League of Legends, the Game Changers (LGC) program will exclusively debut in the EMEA region. Conversely, VALORANT boasts leagues worldwide. The inaugural tournament under the LGC banner is named LGC Rising, marking Riot’s initial effort to establish a significant competitive environment tailored for women within this region.
LGC is set to launch in EMEA, backed by a robust base and undeniably the achievement of VALORANT GC. For instance, G2 Esports’ female team, G2 Hel, has earned a spot in the playoffs for Liga Nexo, which stands as the second-largest Spanish league after the SuperLiga.
“We can’t wait to put our unique spin on what [VALORANT Game Changers] created,” said Riot.
Before the establishment of the League of Legends Challenger Series (LGC), there were regional programs that provided women with a platform to compete in League of Legends. Examples include the Equal Esports Cup and Coupe des Étoiles in France. Riot Games emphasized that LGC does not aim to supersede any of these initiatives, instead viewing them as an integral part of our collective journey and ongoing history.
1) In the upcoming LGC Rising tournament, participation is open to anyone who identifies as female. The article published by Riot Games further disclosed that organizations participating in the League of Legends EMEA Championship (LEC) will also participate in this community. Although specific teams were not specified (other than G2 Hel), Riot has already confirmed that there are currently three active teams fitting this description. It’s highly probable that these teams are SK Gaming Avarosa and Vitality Rising Bees. These three teams are set to receive direct invites, along with the three finalists from the Equal Esports Cup.
The tournament LGC Rising is set to kick off in August with an open qualifier, rounding out its condensed eight-team setup. Following this, it moves onto a single-round robin, best-of-one phase, where the top three teams from each group progress. The playoffs adopt a double-elimination format for a best-of-five series, and on October 30, the champion will be officially declared at a live stage event during Paris Games week.
