HBO Max Pulled the Plug on These 9 Shows?!

Due to a wide array of hit originals such as “The Last of Us,” “The White Lotus,” and “Peacemaker,” alongside a vast library of content from Warner Bros. Discovery, HBO Max has risen to become one of the most sought-after streaming platforms. However, not all intellectual properties and original series produced by HBO have stayed on this service.

Similar to Disney+, HBO Max has periodically eliminated certain shows from their streaming platform. As stated by Warner Bros. Discovery CFO Gunnar Weidenfels, the motivation behind HBO’s frequent removal of series was to correct an excess of content that stemmed from an industry that had been too enthusiastic in its production.

Some of these programs have come back, but they can be found on various digital channels instead. Regrettably, a number of them are not accessible anymore for viewers to enjoy.

These Purged HBO Max Shows Still Aren’t Available on Streaming

Infinity Train

I’ve been captivated by the magical journey that is “Infinity Train,” a Cartoon Network series featuring an array of enchanting animated characters aboard an endless train. This show garnered recognition for its thought-provoking themes, exceptional writing, and even earned four seasons before it was unexpectedly taken off the air and removed from digital platforms.

According to its creator, Owen Dennis, expressed on Bluesky (through Reddit), he wishes to produce more episodes of the series, but due to not owning the rights, it’s unlikely that he ever will. The writer urges fans to express their enthusiasm for the show, Infinity Train, despite its limited availability for viewing.

Close Enough

One more Cartoon Network show that fell victim to HBO Max’s content cleanse is the adult-themed animated comedy “Close Enough”. This series boasted talents like Danielle Brooks and Jason Mantzoukas in its voice cast, and it focused on a thirtysomething couple residing in a duplex in Los Angeles alongside their divorced friends. Together, they navigated the hurdles of everyday life within this shared living arrangement.

As a devoted movie enthusiast, I can’t help but share my thoughts on the aftermath of taking away “Close Enough” from our screens. The team behind the show, including yours truly as a writer, expressed their disappointment on X (previously known as Twitter), stating that it feels disheartening to invest countless hours into a project only for it to mysteriously disappear.

Summer Camp Island

The animated show “Summer Camp Island” amassed a loyal fanbase by chronicling the adventures of anthropomorphic pals Oscar and Hedgehog, who resided at a mystical summer camp. Over the course of six seasons and more than 100 episodes, the Cartoon Network production captured viewers’ hearts until its sudden termination from HBO Max.

Artist Julia Pott expressed her disapproval on platform X prior to the cancellation of “Summer Camp Island,” stating emphatically, “Animation is not insignificant.

For five long years, our team tirelessly crafted 100 breathtaking animated episodes, often pushing past dusk, pouring our heart and soul into each frame. We were a dedicated band of artists, striving to create something truly captivating. Unfortunately, HBO MAX seemingly overlooked our efforts, removing all our work as if it held no value. Let it be known that animation is not insignificant!

Generation

The show, titled “Generation,” was an HBO original that centered around a diverse group of teenagers from various backgrounds who resided in the traditionally conservative area of Orange County, California. This series, which featured Justice Smith and Chase Sui Wonders as leads, delved into their experiences navigating contemporary concepts of life and relationships within this community. Unfortunately, after just one season, the show was unfortunately cancelled.

Initially taken down from HBO Max as part of the content clean-up in 2022, the show Generation found another chance on Tubi in 2023, securing it a fresh platform for streaming.

Westworld

In 2022, the critically acclaimed original show Westworld, which was adapted from Michael Crichton’s sci-fi novel and boasted a star-studded cast including Evan Rachel Wood, James Marsden, Thandiwe Newton, and Jeffrey Wright, suffered what appeared to be the most significant loss during HBO Max’s content downsizing.

Despite being taken off HBO Max, shows such as “Westworld” have been reborn on platforms like Roku and Tubi. Now, all four seasons of the series can be found there.

After taking it off the air, executive producer Jonathan Nolan expressed to The Hollywood Reporter that the cancellation of Westworld didn’t concern him, but he continues to have a strong urge to complete the series.

Aquaman: King of Atlantis

Warner Bros. Discovery owns the rights to DC Comics characters, enabling them to branch out beyond the main DC Universe with adaptations available on HBO Max. This move led to the creation of various animated shows such as “Aquaman: King of Atlantis“, a series that continues the storyline from James Wan’s “Aquaman” film, although it doesn’t hold canonical status within the DCEU.

The DC miniseries was taken down during HBO’s content cleanup in 2022. One of the creators, Marly Halpern-Graser, voiced her sadness about its removal on X, but encouraged viewers that Aquaman: King of Atlantis can still be watched due to its availability on physical media.

Theodosia

The family-oriented TV show, titled Theodosia, ran for a total of two seasons and 52 episodes, adapting from the young adult books written by Robin LaFevers. Unfortunately, it was eventually taken off air after its run.

2023 saw HBO Max relinquish the rights to the series. Later on, BYUtv stepped in and acquired these rights, ensuring that American viewers can still stream the first season of the show.

Raised by Wolves

Ridley Scott contributed in making the HBO Max original production titled “Raised by Wolves“. This show centered around two robots tasked with raising a group of kids on an alien and dangerous planet following a cosmic war. The cast included Abubakar Salim, Amanda Collin, and Travis Fimmel, and it spanned over two grand seasons.

Raised by Wolves, which was previously available on HBO Max, now has a new broadcasting platform due to the collaboration among Warner Bros., Roku, and Tubi.

The Garcias

Originally airing on HBO Max, “The Garcias” was a unique American sitcom that ran for just one season. This series served as a sequel to the ’00s Nickelodeon show, “The Brothers Garcia.” With HBO deciding not to continue the show, the rights have now reverted back to the original studio and producers, potentially allowing “The Garcias” to find a new streaming platform in the future.

Bonus: Tig n’ Seek

As a dedicated cinema enthusiast, one show I found myself missing on HBO Max post the Warner Bros. Discovery merger was none other than the captivating animated series for kids titled “Tig n’ Seek.” This delightful show chronicled the detective escapades of an 8-year-old character named Tiggy, accompanied by his feline companion, Gweeseek.

Mike Chilian, the mastermind behind Tig n’ Seek, expressed disappointment in a post on X following the removal, stating, “Years of episodes, countless hours of effort…
