Sharing tea and navigating tough situations, they developed into reliable confidants despite their contrasting natures. However, Colleen’s motives might not be as straightforward as they appear. As doubts multiplied, a startling action ignited a chain reaction of violent events that could fundamentally change the lives of both women.

As a gamer, I step into a captivating tale where I am Vera Blethyn, portraying the role of an elderly neighbor named Elsie. Meanwhile, Andrea Riseborough from ‘The Regime’ brings Colleen to life, and Watkins from ‘The Crown’ takes on the part of my middle-aged son, John.

Besides the main characters, the ensemble features Sandra Huggett from “The Franchise,” Lolly Jones known for “Silent Witness,” Elliot Benn hailing from “Malpractice,” and lastly, Annie Eves.

In addition to our primary actors, we’re lucky to have Sandra Huggett (from “The Franchise”) on board as Mary, Lolly Jones (renowned for “Silent Witness”) playing Jane, Elliot Benn (previously in “Malpractice”), and the versatile Annie Eves.

The movie “Dragonfly” is crafted by the talented writer and director, Paul Andrew Williams, known for past works such as “London to Brighton” and television series like “Archie” and “The Walk-In”.

In addition to being an executive producer, Williams is involved, and the producers’ credits go to Marie-Elena Dyche from How to Have Sex and Dominic Tighe from Bull.

Previously, Blethyn shared that she received the movie role following wrapping up Vera, reminiscing at the British Film Institute: “I was already home, my bags weren’t even unpacked, when my agent phoned me and said, ‘You’ve been offered a film.’ I replied, ‘I don’t feel like doing a film right now, I haven’t even unpacked yet.’

She mentioned, “‘It’s with Andrea Riseborough.'” In response, I asked, “Oh, really?” To which she replied, “Yes, it begins next week. There was a dropout, and it’s penned and helmed by Paul Andrew Williams.

Initially, I responded with, “‘Hmm, I might as well take a peek at that, you know, just in case… but honestly, I won’t do it, but I’ll give it a look.’ In the end, I found myself enjoying it, so I decided to go ahead and do it.

The movie titled “Dragonfly” has been warmly welcomed, as both Riseborough and Blethyn were awarded Best Performance in an International Narrative Feature at the recent Tribeca Festival, following its premiere there this month.

The jury is delighted to announce that they will honor Andrea Riseborough and Brenda Blethyn with the award for Best Performance in an International Film. This recognition goes to these brave actors who have breathtakingly brought their characters to life, evoking a mix of empathy and fear within us.

Critics, who are often movie enthusiasts themselves, have praised the film as well. Currently, it holds a 91% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. _The Film Stage_ describes it as both heartwarming and startling, a movie that flips horror tropes upside down.

The Guardian stated that the movie “Dragonfly” was “a powerful, intense film” in a four-star critique, going on to say that it is a “melancholic, realistic drama with hints of Mike Leigh’s style, but also scenes reminiscent of thrillers and even horror genres.

At this moment, we don’t have any specific release details for Dragonfly. However, if all goes well, we might be able to enjoy it towards the latter part of 2025 or even early in 2026.

Dragonfly is yet to confirm a release date.

The first print issue of Digital Spy’s magazine, titled “British Comedy Legends,” is now available! You can purchase it from your local newsstands or online for only £3.99.
