Disappointed but Unsurprised: My Removal From Snowbreak’s CC Program
Hi all,
After publishing my piece on the status of Snowbreak: Containment Zone’s content creator program, a representative from Seasun, the game’s developer and publisher, asked me to remove it. I chose not to comply. Eventually, we arrived at a choice: either delete the article or face expulsion from the content creator program.
SS: Hello Vic, we have some concerns about the latest post on your site as it seems detrimental to the game. Could you possibly take it down for us?
vicyush (V): No
Are there plans to improve the CC program?
SS: Always on it
Regardless of the challenge, I held my ground with my choice, which ultimately led to my tenure in the Snowbreak Content Creator Program concluding.
When I released my piece, I was aware that Seasun might not appreciate it, and there could potentially be attempts to have it removed. Regardless, I chose to proceed with my decision. Sadly, this action resulted in my dismissal from the Snowbreak Creative Collective (CC) program, but I stand firm behind my words. Removing the article would mean abandoning my fellow content creators and friends. They deserve respect, and their work deserves proper recognition. If sacrificing my place in the CC program is the price to pay for this, then I am willing to do so. I refuse to be silenced by intimidation, and will continue fighting for better treatment within the CC program.
From another perspective, rather than viewing my criticisms as a chance for growth and improvement, Seasun’s actions suggest they prioritize damage control and upholding their image over genuinely helping their content creator community. For instance, when the Snowbreak CC program faced systemic problems, no action was taken on the private feedback submitted for approximately six months. However, once these issues became public knowledge, a statement promising change and improvements was published within a week. This incident highlights that without external pressure such as public backlash, damage to reputation, or community activism, there would be no incentive for change. This pattern persists, and I have no reason to believe it has changed. This is why I declined to remove my article: if Seasun remains unaccountable in the public eye, nothing will improve.
I want to clarify that I’m far from being an adversary of Snowbreak. In fact, I hope it reaches its full potential. When the concerns regarding the Snowbreak Creative Construction program were addressed last year, I publicly acknowledged the improvements made. I’ve generally chosen to express positive sentiments about Snowbreak, but I won’t shy away from pointing out its weaknesses. Recognizing and addressing flaws is a crucial step towards improvement.
Although I’ve left the Snowbreak CC program, rest assured that snowbreak.gg continues and so does my engagement with Snowbreak. My current plans do not include halting my work on creating guides, reviews, and keeping you updated on news about Snowbreak. I remain committed to supporting the fantastic Snowbreak community. I kindly request your ongoing support as I embark on these future projects.
I sincerely wish for Seasun to take the appropriate steps and enhance their treatment towards their content creators. Should there be improvements, I’ll gladly acknowledge their efforts. However, changes need to occur, and it is within Seasun’s power to bring about this transformation.
