During Sean “Diddy” Combs’ ongoing sex-trafficking trial, there has been significant attention not only on him but also on the jury. Recently, Juror No. 6 was removed due to inconsistencies in their residency statements. Now, it appears another juror is causing a stir for a separate issue. This matter will be addressed this week, and as events develop, an expert is offering insights on how this new predicament could potentially have been prevented.
The new juror is currently under scrutiny due to allegations of discussing the case with another juror. No specifics about these alleged conversations have been disclosed so far. However, the defense is pushing for the juror’s removal from the trial, claiming that they may have compromised the fairness of the case. David S. Seltzer, a lawyer, spoke about this situation with Fox News, stating that the jury now appears to be “tainted.” Seltzer believes that Judge Arun Subramanian, who should’ve isolated the jury earlier, is responsible for this predicament.
During a break, they’re going over the details of the case away from the jury, just as the court had directed. This action, in essence, takes us back to the early stages of this trial. However, I’m curious as to why the jury wasn’t kept apart (sequestered) during the proceedings?
Discussions about potential difficulties in selecting a jury arose prior to the trial in May, due to the high-profile nature of the case. It was suggested that it might be challenging to find 12 impartial jurors because of widespread knowledge about Sean Combs’ legal troubles, which could lead people to form opinions prematurely. David S. Seltzer’s comments on the jury issue seem to support this idea, as he noted that the jurors may have already been exposed to external information about the case from the outset.
To prevent biases from arising, jurors are advised not to engage with social media or news during the trial period. This includes refraining from reading articles, listening to news broadcasts, and discussing the case with family members, friends, or anyone else. Essentially, they should maintain a secluded environment throughout this phase. However, it can be challenging to fully comply with these guidelines.

It turns out that Diddy’s parties were not the primary cause for mentioning Michael Jordan during Diddy’s trial.
Despite the jury being decided around mid-May, there were allegations of racial discrimination from Diddy’s legal team. Defense attorney Marc Agnifilo found a “pattern” in seven Black jurors being dismissed during the selection process. Maurene Comey, a prosecutor from the U.S. Attorney’s office, defended these eliminations by citing factors such as familiarity with the case, language issues, and personal views on law enforcement. Judge Subramanian concluded that Agnifilo’s team failed to prove intentional discrimination.
Over the last few weeks, jurors have been hearing testimonies from multiple people, several of whom have accused Sean Combs. Recently, his ex-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, provided details about the sexual acts she claims were forced upon her with male escorts by Combs. Another friend of Ventura’s, Bryana Bongolan, added that during an argument, Combs allegedly hung her off a 17th-story balcony. Furthermore, Kid Cudi, another rapper, spoke about incidents involving home invasions and arson at Combs’ residence.
The legal team is likely to present its arguments shortly, considering the charges of sex-trafficking and racketeering conspiracy he’s been accused of, Diddy might face a lifetime in prison if convicted. As for the jury, a decision about the fate of the latest juror hasn’t been disclosed yet.
