Shocking Casting Choice for DCU’s Clayface Revealed by James Gunn!
Among the highly anticipated DCU movies I’m looking forward to is undeniably Clayface, given its horror genre leanings and Mike Flanagan penning the script. Although we know when it will be released, the anticipation for casting announcements has been more bearable than waiting for the arrival of Superman‘s release date. However, DC co-head James Gunn himself has recently shared significant casting news regarding this villainous movie.
34-year-old Welsh actor Tom Rhys Harries, someone I wouldn’t have predicted for the leading role in a century, has been cast as Clayface.
Though I’m taken aback by this development, it doesn’t diminish my excitement one bit – in fact, it skyrockets! This is particularly true after reading the encouraging words that Gunn posted alongside the announcement on Threads.
Following an extensive and draining investigation, we’ve found our DCU Clayface in the talented actor @tomrhysharries. Matt Reeves and I were left astonished by his performance, and we eagerly anticipate your reaction to this film, helmed by director James Watkins and penned by Mike Flanagan.
For those eager to be captivated by Tom Rhys Harries’ acting prowess, consider his upcoming roles: the war drama “Kandahar” in 2023, co-starring Gerard Butler, or the historical drama “The Return” slated for 2024 with Ralph Fiennes. On television, he made appearances as Ricky September during Ncuti Gatwa’s first season of “Doctor Who”, and more recently provided the voice for Prince Lucas in Netflix’s animated series “Wolf King”.
The 2026 movie release I’m most pumped about, Clayface will hit theaters on September 11, 2026.
