Sam Taunton reveals the brutal reality after Project axing as he returns to tiny stand-up gigs: ‘Everyone knows I’ve lost my job’
It’s back to basics for Sam Taunton.
Originally a popular television personality, this comedian has swapped the bright lights of The Project’s studio for dimly lit pub stages, following Channel 10’s decision to end their long-running talk show. Consequently, he finds himself jobless in the realm of television.
This week, a humorous 33-year-old performer made an appearance onstage in Sydney without hiding the obvious issue: his current joblessness, which is no secret to anyone.
Everyone seems to know that you’ve lost your job, and it’s quite surprising,” Sam said during his latest comedy act, acknowledging that the responses from his closest friends and family were not particularly reassuring.
My father called me and shared that, in all honesty, the program didn’t appeal to him. He admitted that he prefers genuine news over it, as he jokingly put it.

However, what really sealed the deal for him was her reaction. She shared a Google Docs sheet labeled, “Household chores since Sam is jobless.”
But it was when his girlfriend showed him the Google Doc titled “Chores now that Sam’s unemployed” that things became clear to him.
Originally a common sight on Australian television screens, Sam has returned to performing stand-up comedy – a path in his career that wasn’t quite what he had anticipated following his successful stint as a host on one of the nation’s most prominent news programs.
Not only did the embarrassment continue, but as per Sam’s account, even the most composed panel member of The Project felt compelled to add a final remark.
You may recall Waleed – here’s a brief update: He reached out to me on a Wednesday and shared that he had been photographed by the paparazzi, right outside Chemist Warehouse, close to the studio. His message was, “I apologize, Sam. Brace yourself.
Sam, hoping to nab a bit of that paparazzi pity, made a mad dash to the same location.
‘I ran as fast as I could to Chemist Warehouse. Not one f***er took a photo of me!’
Additionally, Sam questioned the assembly if anyone had seen the program, and when they responded negatively, Sam concluded, “It seems we’ve identified the issue.
This month marks the conclusion of the Project, which has been running for 16 years. The show’s main hosts, Sarah Harris, Hamish Macdonald, and Waleed Aly, are parting ways with the network as their tenure comes to an end.

changes are being made following the revelation a week ago that The Project will no longer air, ending its 16-year run and producing over 4,500 episodes.
On June 27th, the last episode will be broadcast, followed by a single evening news update for the entire nation.
Currently, Channel Ten is progressing with its significant overhaul, readying itself for the debut of a fresh current affairs program.
As a lifestyle expert, I’m excited to share some updates about our team here. Waleed Aly, Sarah Harris, and Hamish Macdonald are moving on from their roles as hosts of our network. However, fear not, as our beloved comedian Taunton will still grace us with his appearances across various Ten shows. This transition marks a new chapter for all of them, and we wish them the best in their future endeavors. Stay tuned for more updates!
On June 27, the final episode is scheduled to broadcast, followed by a change as a fresh current affairs program takes over where the panel show previously was.
Following the announcement that The Project would conclude on the previous Monday, Ten revealed another statement detailing the launch of a revamped news program.
10 NEWS+’s highly-anticipated debut will take place on Channel 10 and 10Play starting at 6pm on Monday, June 30th.
10 News Plus will air nationwide following Network 10’s 5 pm local news updates, providing in-depth examination of significant events that transpired during the day.

As stated by Paramount Australia, the intention of this segment is to reshape the concept of evening news through offering in-depth analysis, reliable reporting, and prolonged investigative journalism.
To stay current with Australia’s ever-changing media landscape, our news program can now be accessed not only through traditional broadcast but also via streaming services. Additionally, it will be made accessible on digital and social media platforms.
During the 6pm broadcast from Sunday through Thursday, the program will feature familiar faces like Denham Hitchcock, a former 7News journalist, and Amelia Brace, a Walkley Award-winner.
Ursula Heger and Hugh Riminton will take the lead during the Friday broadcast.
The main broadcasting team will have the assistance of journalists such as Ashleigh Raper, Bill Hogan, Brianna Parkins, Samantha Butler, Carrie-Anne Greenbank, and Claudia Vrdoljak during their coverage.
Entertainment Editor Angela Bishop from Ten will share valuable perspectives on the most significant entertainment news, covering high-profile red carpet events and unique interviews with A-list celebrities from Hollywood.
Regarding the latest project, White couldn’t help but praise the exceptional team in charge and the tireless efforts put in backstage to make it broadcast-ready.
He mentioned that they will continue to prioritize honesty, their viewers, and delivering impactful narratives effectively in this latest venture.
A top-notch group, headed by Denham and Amelia, has been put together, and I’m eager for the public to witness the fruits of their labor.
10 News+ premieres Monday, 30 June at 6pm on Channel 10 and 10 Play.
