Avril Lavigne shares gushing message about her ex-husband Deryck Whibley as the pair reunite to perform together at Vans Warped Tour rock festival

At the Vans Warped Tour rock festival, Avril Lavigne joined forces once again with her former spouse, Deryck Whibley, for a joint performance on stage.

On Monday, the 40-year-old Canadian singer posted an affectionate note on Instagram about sharing a stage with her former partner.

Back in 2005, at the tender age of 26, I found myself becoming engaged to the incredible Avril. She was just 21 then, but her charm was undeniable. A year after that joyful moment, we decided to formalize our bond and tie the knot.

But by 2009 the couple had split, with reports saying Avril felt she had ‘married too young’.

Despite appearing to maintain a friendly relationship, Deryck, who is 45 years old, unexpectedly joined Avril on stage during her main performance at the rock festival Vans Warped Tour, which took place in Washington D.C.

Avril couldn’t help but praise her ex Deryck Whibley from Sum 41 as they collaborated on one of the greatest pop-punk anthems ever, In Too Deep.

She expressed about the event, saying: “Performed as headliner at the Vans Warped Tour last night, and it surpassed all my expectations!

‘It was one of the best crowds and you guys know how to rock.’

Back in 2005, I, a die-hard fan, was beyond thrilled when Avril’s sweet voice, my beloved Girlfriend singer, accepted the proposal from Deryck, the charismatic frontman of Sum 41. The following year, at just 21, I felt like we were growing up together as they officially tied the knot. Five years separated us, but their bond was timeless.

In the subsequent year, the pair got married at a traditional Catholic ceremony held on a private estate in Montecito, a coastal city in California, with Avril being 22 years old and Deryck turning 27.

By 2009, they had chosen different paths, as a source revealed to People that she got married too early.

On her blog, Avril shared thoughts about the news, stating: ‘We became friends at age 17, began dating at 19, and got married at 21. I appreciate the time we’ve spent together, and I feel thankful and fortunate for our continued friendship.’

I deeply appreciate Deryck and hold him in high esteem. He’s an exceptional individual whom I am particularly fond of, and I cherish him wholeheartedly.

‘Deryck and I are separating and moving forward on a positive note.’

On her second walk down the aisle, Avril chose to do so with Chad Kroeger from Nickelback, during a gothic-style wedding ceremony held in the South of France.

In 2013, a year after they began their relationship, the pair got married, but unfortunately, their union didn’t last, and they parted ways by 2015.

Regardless of their individual paths, they’ve managed to stay close friends and frequently enjoy each other’s company.

Following a series of casual relationships, Avril started dating Mod Sun in 2021. Their connection developed swiftly, leading to an engagement by the end of the year.
