Erin Moriarty of ‘The Boys’ has Graves’ disease: ‘Felt the light coming back on’ with treatment

In a candid discussion, actress Erin Moriarty, famously known for her role as the bold and just Starlight in “The Boys,” has opened up about her personal health struggles, focusing on her long-term fight against an autoimmune disease.

As a movie critic, I felt compelled to share a personal update with you all. Last month, I was diagnosed with Graves’ disease, an autoimmune condition where my overactive thyroid has been causing some discomfort. If I hadn’t attributed everything to stress and exhaustion earlier, this could have been detected sooner. However, the treatment I’m receiving now is showing promising results. #HealthJourney

Actor from “Jessica Jones” and “One Life to Live” posted a series of images, some of which were text conversations with her parents. In one snapshot, Moriarty tells her mom she’s in need of relief, as she explains her distress. She also mentions, “I can’t go on like this forever.

Moriarty’s message to her mother goes on, expressing that it’s not just about being tired – it’s a deep, all-encompassing plea for help, and she’s unsure how much longer she can keep going like this.

Television

On “Good Morning America,” the actor known for his roles in both “Euphoria” and “Grey’s Anatomy” shared details about his incurable health issue that he announced on Tuesday.

Moriarty was rather discreet about her health issues, acknowledging in her post that “every person/body experiences autoimmune diseases differently.” According to the Mayo Clinic, symptoms of Graves’ disease may include feelings of restlessness or irritability, slight hand and finger tremors, unexpected weight loss, menstrual changes, and an increased heart rate. Notably, Wendy Williams, Daisy Ridley, and Missy Elliott have openly discussed their experiences living with Graves’ disease.

Moriarty stated in her post that just a day after starting the treatment, she began to feel a renewed sense of brightness returning. Since then, this feeling has been growing stronger.

Instead of disclosing the specifics of her therapy, Moriarty communicated to her father via text that she was already experiencing a significant improvement and had been reflecting: “Wow, this is what it’s supposed to feel like? I’ve been missing out!

Entertainment & Arts

As I prepare for the launch of Miley Cyrus’ forthcoming album ‘Something Beautiful,’ she unveils that she battled through a truly agonizing health predicament while filming her New Year’s Eve TV spectacular.

Ever since “The Boys” debuted on Amazon Prime Video in 2019, Erin Moriarty has taken on the role of superhero Annie January, also known as Starlight, who boasts the ability to fly and control light. While I won’t give away too many plot details, it appears that Moriarty is now familiar with both on-screen and off-screen situations involving losing one’s zest and finding ways to rekindle it once more.

She ended her post with a recommendation for her audience to pay attention to their bodily sensations and consult a healthcare professional if anything seems unusual. “Should you notice any faintness, no matter how slight,” she advised, “make an appointment for a check-up.

“Don’t ‘suck it up’ and transcend suffering; you deserve to be comfy. S—’s hard enough as is.”
