28 Days Later gets new UK streaming home ahead of 28 Years Later release
In the United Kingdom, Danny Boyle’s chilling post-apocalyptic horror masterpiece 28 Days Later has now moved to a different platform for streaming.
Before the much-awaited premiere of the new sequel, “28 Years Later,” set to hit theaters this coming Friday (June 20), the original 2002 infection movie is now accessible on BBC iPlayer following its broadcast on BBC One last night (June 15).
You can stream it until the end of the month, starting today (June 16) – enjoy it here.
As a fellow enthusiast, if you’re eager to revisit the whole film series before the upcoming movie drops, I’d recommend catching up with the standalone sequel “28 Weeks Later” (2007). If you’re based in the UK or Ireland, you can stream it right now on Netflix and Disney+ as a subscriber! Enjoy the ride!
What to Read Next
28 Days Later, penned by Alex Garland (known for Ex Machina and Civil War), follows the character of Jim, played by Cillian Murphy. This man is a bike messenger who emerges from a coma to discover that humanity has been obliterated due to a virus transforming individuals into brutal creatures.
With the rapid spread of the disease, true survivors are becoming increasingly scarce, and their actions aren’t always motivated by kindness.
In addition to this, Naomie Harris portrays the character of chemist Selena, Christopher Eccleston takes on the role of Major Henry West, Brendan Gleeson is depicted as a taxi driver named Frank, and Megan Burns plays Frank’s daughter, Hannah.
In the upcoming sequel, which is once more helmed by Boyle and written by Garland, we find ourselves 28 years later following a virus outbreak and the events from the initial film.
The scenario depicts individuals who have survived amidst the infected, with primary focus on characters dwelling within a hidden, fortified settlement on an isolated island.
As a pair comprising a father and his son venture across the causeway to reach the mainland, they uncover the terrifying realities of the world beyond.
The movie features Aaron Taylor-Johnson playing the role of Jamie, Jodie Comer as Isla, and Alfie Williams portraying their 12-year-old son named Spike. Additionally, Ralph Fiennes is cast as Dr Ian Kelson, Jack O’Connell takes on a mysterious cult leader character called Sir Jimmy Crystal, and Edvin Ryding appears as Erik Sundqvist in the film “28 Years Later”.
After it, another sequel titled “The Bone Temple” will be released, which was filmed simultaneously with “28 Years Later“. This upcoming film is directed by Nia DaCosta, who previously worked on “Candyman“. The release date for this movie is scheduled for January 16, 2026.
Previously this year, it was confirmed by Danny Boyle that Cillian Murphy would be rejoining the world of the 28… series – with a surprise addition. He’s slated to appear in the film titled “The Bone Temple” and also in the third installment of the upcoming trilogy.
Previously, it was mentioned that the actor would not return to his character Jim for the initial movie of the series. Interestingly, he’s now taking on a role behind the scenes as an executive producer in the Peaky Blinders production.
28 Days Later can currently be streamed on BBC iPlayer and Netflix within the United Kingdom. On the other hand, 28 Years Later is set to hit theaters on June 20th.
