On Sunday, Charlie Murphy announced the arrival of her first child with her longtime partner, Sam Yates.
Actress from Peaky Blinders, aged 37, shared a heartfelt message on Instagram to celebrate her partner, Sam, the director of Agatha Christie’s Towards Zero, who turned 41 and is now celebrating his first Father’s Day.
Speaking about it last month, Charlie expressed that she embraced the signs of her pregnancy wholeheartedly, having gone through five tough rounds of IVF over a span of two years.
On Sunday, Charlie shared a photo of her newborn baby resting next to her pet dog, announcing that she had just welcomed a new addition to the family.
She expressed happiness on Father’s Day by writing, “Celebrating my first Father’s Day with you, @samyates2020!” Her boss then reposted the picture and commented, “Feeling so fortunate.

Reflecting on the instant she learned she was about to experience the delightful sound of little footsteps, she admitted, ‘Of course, I felt joy, yet I had to restrain myself from getting overly excited.’
Perhaps it was the trauma from undergoing several rounds of In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF) that caused it. That experience was truly grueling. It was so intense that I was glad for every symptom associated with pregnancy, as I was simply overjoyed to be past those rounds.
Apart from featuring in the hit show “Peaky Blinders,” Murphy has also made appearances in critically acclaimed series like “Happy Valley” (BAFTA winner) and “Obsession” on Netflix. He’s currently involved in a long-term romantic relationship.
In an interview with The Irish Times, Murphy shared that her path to becoming a mother was not smooth or effortless.
She said it seemed as if she was gambling at a casino, putting her emotions, money, and time on the line for another investment round.
When the final few games didn’t produce any outcome, I felt like I had been tricked. It seemed challenging, laborious, and repetitive.
This difficult time involved a miscarriage too. ‘It’s so common,’ Murphy says.
Initially, I might have kept my IVF journey a secret, but I’m thankful that the discussion around it is more open today. Sharing my experience with other women who have gone through it makes me feel less isolated.
From a brighter perspective, she went on to share: ‘I’m feeling fantastic at the moment. I’ve been quite productive with my nesting tasks. My label maker is out, I’m decluttering the messy drawers and organizing things neatly. I must admit, it’s quite pleasurable.’

Charlie and Sam have yet to share any snaps of their pregnancy joy on social media.
Since 2019, Charlie has been joyfully involved in a long-standing partnership with the British director Sam. They often post pictures of each other on Instagram.

During the pandemic, Charlie and Sam bought a house together in London where they live together.
Originating from Ireland as the fourth-born among five siblings, Charlie’s parents both being hairdressers, she gradually carved out a niche for herself on television, sharing screen time with Killian Scott and Robert Sheehan in the highly praised series Love/Hate.
