Dakota Johnson’s Materialists places THIRD at box office behind How to Train Your Dragon

How To Train Your Dragon ignited the summer box office, effortlessly claiming the number one position.

In a fresh take on the 2010 animated blockbuster, featuring Mason Thames, Nico Parker, and Gerard Butler, the live-action adaptation lived up to anticipation, earning approximately $84 million during its initial weekend at cinemas.

The movie garnered significant success worldwide too, earning approximately $114.1 million across 81 different countries. This brings its global earnings up to an impressive $197.8 million, as reported by The Numbers.

Over the Father’s Day weekend in North America, How To Train Your Dragon (HTTYD) ranked as the eighth highest opening weekend box office ever recorded, and it currently stands as the fourth largest film opening of the year so far.

Over the weekend, I had the pleasure of joining others, including Thames and Butler, who took to social media to share their excitement about the movie with a joyful video.

‘It was the first time we saw it in Imax,’ Butler said, ‘Yeah, it was insane,’ Thames agreed.

Moreover, Butler added, pointing at a lively group, “These aren’t just any friends, they came along for the fun!” he quipped, alluding to the fact that he didn’t need to splurge too much on their company.

Later, gesturing towards his young co-star, the MTV Movie Award recipient remarked, “This boy is on track to become the greatest star, Mason. Just how talented is he?

Next to the post, the Scottish actor expressed, “I’m overjoyed beyond words to refer to him as my Viking son. It’s evident that this sentiment is echoed by all the warriors who fought alongside us during the recent battle.

Go see #HowToTrainYourDragon and watch this kid soar. He’s gonna break your heart in the best way.’

1) The movie garnered exceptional feedback, even earning an ‘A’ grade from CinemaScore, as well as a near-perfect score of 98% approval from viewers on Rotten Tomatoes.

Over the past seven days, the live-action version of Lilo & Stitch, which had been leading for the last three weeks, slipped down to the runner-up position.

Over the weekend, I was absolutely thrilled to see the incredible success of the Disney film featuring Maia Kealoha as the adorable Lilo! Not only did it rake in a whopping $15 million domestically, but it also boosted its global total to an astounding $366,371,809! Courtney B. Vance and Tia Carrere were simply brilliant in their roles too – what a fantastic cast!

Making its entrance at number three was the charming romantic comedy “Materialists,” featuring Dakota Johnson in the coveted role of a matchmaker who finds herself torn between two leading men, Chris Evans and Pedro Pascal.

The movie penned and helmed by Celine Dion earned an affectionate 87% score from film critics on Rotten Tomatoes, while moviegoers showed their appreciation with a touching $12 million at the ticket counter.

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning dropped to fourth place, earning $10.3 million.

Despite underperforming compared to other films in its successful series, the action-adventure film featuring Tom Cruise and his cunning agent team couldn’t outshine Lilo & Stitch during its debut weekend. However, Final Reckoning has still grossed over $467 million worldwide.

In fifth place, we find Ana De Armas starring in From the World of John Wick: Ballerina. This action-packed film about a highly skilled Russian assassin pursuing vengeance for her father’s demise, accumulated approximately $9.4 million during the weekend.
