Stranger Things: Tales From ’85
The hit series “Stranger Things” will conclude in three parts on Netflix later this year, but it’s not the final chapter for the franchise. In fact, various spin-offs are currently being developed, and one of them, titled “Stranger Things: Tales From ’85“, was recently highlighted at the Annecy Animation Festival. This upcoming animated series is under the watchful eyes of the original creators, the Duffer Brothers, with animation work handled by Flying Bark Productions.
At the Annecy conference, Netflix disclosed various aspects of the upcoming animated version of “Stranger Things,” such as its setting being Hawkins during the frosty winter of 1985. The storyline also revealed that the original characters would be returning to confront fresh monsters and unravel a supernatural enigma. This timeline for “Stranger Things: Tales From ’85” falls within the six-month gap between Seasons 2 and 3 of the main series, offering an intriguing period in the lives of the original characters, which the animated series can delve into.
It’s been confirmed by Collider that some characters from “Stranger Things” will appear in “Tales From ’85”. These characters have been spotted in the new concept art and test footage, although the actual actors haven’t been named yet.
These Original Stranger Things Characters Will Return in Tales From ’85
Eleven
In the Netflix series “Stranger Things,” Eleven stands out as a key character due to her extraordinary psychic powers, particularly her telekinesis, and her intriguing link to the alternate realm known as the Upside Down, which adds a crucial element of mystery to the supernatural plot.
By about 1985, Eleven was embarking on her romance with Mike Wheeler and feeling strained in her relationship with foster father, Jim Hopper, as she adjusted to the typical lifestyle of a high school student.
Mike Wheeler
In the world of “Stranger Things,” Mike Wheeler, the party leader, becomes romantically involved with Eleven during the time period between Seasons 2 and 3. This relationship is met with disapproval from Hopper. Furthermore, Mike’s growing affection for Eleven leads to a falling out with his childhood friend, Will, as Mike gradually loses interest in their shared pastimes.
Will Byers
In the first season of “Stranger Things”, the vanishing of Will Byers sets off an enigma. After being freed from the Upside Down and the Mind Flayer in Season 3, Will has a chance to resume his normal teenage life. However, things don’t go as planned because, like Eleven, he continues to have a peculiar bond with the Upside Down following his ordeal and finds it difficult to break free from it.
Dustin Henderson
In Season 2 of Stranger Things, Dustin developed a bond with a young Demodog creature, ultimately having to euthanize it. Subsequently, he befriended the older and more charismatic Steve Harrington, a relationship that is expected to play a significant role in Stranger Things: The Tales of ’85.
Lucas Sinclair
Lucas Sinclair is an essential member of the main group, and it’s hard to imagine a full run of “Stranger Things” without him. After flirting with the newcomer Max in the second season of “Stranger Things”, Lucas and Max start dating during Season 3. This relationship development might be further delved into in the upcoming animated series.
Max Mayfield
In the second season, Max gained widespread popularity as a beloved character on “Stranger Things.” As we wait for Season 3, it’s expected that Max will navigate conflicts with her brother, Billy, whom she warned to stay away from their group. Additionally, she may develop her budding relationship with Lucas and strengthen her friendship with Eleven in the spin-off series, “Tales From ’85.
Jim Hopper
In the animated series, Stranger Things: Tales of ’85, it’s only confirmed that Jim Hopper, who serves as the Hawkins Police Chief and is Eleven’s foster father, will be the adult character featured. During this time gap between Seasons 2 and 3 of Stranger Things, Hopper may find himself revisiting his role as a father while simultaneously exploring feelings for Joyce Byers. This potential development could make for an intriguing aspect that the animated series might explore further.
During the Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 presentation, it wasn’t confirmed that any characters beyond these seven would appear, but it seems probable that more characters might be unveiled as we approach the release date. Characters like Joyce, Steve, Nancy, and Jonathan are essential to the Stranger Things story, so it’s likely that they will be incorporated into the plot at some point.
The collection titled “Stranger Things: Tales From ’85” still lacks a confirmed release date, however, it is set to join other upcoming “Stranger Things” spin-offs that will carry on the storyline post the conclusion of the main series.
