Sigourney Weaver’s 1995 psychological thriller Copycat has found a new streaming home in the UK.
Already available on Disney+, it can also now be streamed on Netflix.
In this movie, you’ll find Holly Hunter from The Incredibles, singer Harry Connick Jr., and Dermot Mulroney of Scream VI. Notably, the role of a criminal psychologist is portrayed by an actor known for his work in Alien.
In the aftermath of a harrowing encounter with a fugitive, my character, Helen, developed a fear of open spaces, leading me to remain confined within my apartment for decades prior to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. I managed both work and life through technology as a means of connection and survival.
Yet, as San Francisco experiences a string of murders mirroring the unique methods of renowned serial killers, Helen finds herself not just captivated by the case but also in need of aid from the man who nearly took her life.
The movie titled “Copycat” enjoys a commendable 76% positive review on Rotten Tomatoes. One of the most laudatory comments came from “Radio Times“, who described the film as “innovative, classy, and captivating.
The review states: “With a brilliantly written script, director Jon Amiel creates intense suspense that is almost unbearable – the finale set in a bathroom is incredibly shocking. Compared to other mimic murder mysteries from the same year, this one gives Se7en a tough competition.
Critic Roger Ebert, renowned for his insights, drew parallels between the film and David Fincher’s timeless masterpiece, remarking: “Copycat” may not share the somber hues or unique style of “Se7en>”, but in its own right, it is just as impactful.
The text generates unique characters, notably Helen Hudson and the spirited MJ, who outshine the storyline itself. What truly captivates us is the emotional investment we make in these characters, which is essential.
Copycat is streaming now on Netflix, as well as on Disney+.
