Sunrise weatherman Sam Mac channels legendary cartoon character with bold new look

On a Friday morning, weather presenter Sam Mac left viewers amazed as he adopted the distinctive style of a renowned animated character in a daring new appearance.

As a diehard fan, I can’t help but express my admiration when I spot a nod to one of my all-time favorites – the iconic Ned Flanders from The Simpsons! And oh boy, did Channel Seven’s 43-year-old veteran make a statement during his morning show appearance with his striking mustache and vibrant green t-shirt reminiscent of everyone’s favorite next-door neighbor. It was a delightful throwback that had me grinning from ear to ear!

Sam wholeheartedly adopted the likeness, putting on reading glasses and cheerily addressing viewers using Ned’s famous slogan: “Hey there, pal! Good day neighbor! Over to you, Okilly Dokilly.

Later on, he posted a pair of pictures – one showing Ned Flanders waving at the camera and another identical shot – accompanied by a humorous commentary in the caption.

After multiple requests to shave off my beard, I finally agreed with a playful “okilly dokilly” and now I’m back at work, ready for a new beginning – much like Ned Flanders or someone under surveillance, as Sam humorously put it.

The weatherman has developed a reputation for his cheeky behaviour both on and offscreen.

This past week, Sam caused a stir among fans when he reappeared on Sunrise following a month’s absence, sporting a fresh new appearance.

On Monday, the cherished meteorologist made his return on the Channel Seven early-morning program, marking his first appearance since taking ‘paternity leave’ in May.

A frequent character on TV, joined by Margot (age 2) and Mabel (10 months), partner Rebecca James, unveiled a new beard after spending a month off-screen, having grown it during that time.

Before returning to work on the following day, Sam shared a photo on Instagram on Sunday, hinting at his fans that if the image of his fresh beard garnered sufficient likes, he would maintain it.

If this picture garners 10,000 likes, I’ll continue growing my beard when I go back to @sunriseon7 on Monday, as expressed in his post that depicted him cradling his freshly-born child with the hashtag #DadLeaveBeard.

Despite not receiving enough likes on an earlier Instagram post prior to the performance, Sam’s Facebook update was successful. Consequently, he returned to his weather reporting job with a beard.

However, it seems many fans were actually not too pleased with the dad-of-two’s new look.

One person posted on a Sunrise chat forum, “It’s great to have Sam Mac back and demonstrating why he’s the top in weather reporting. His new beard is quite intriguing.

In May, the TV weatherman took to Instagram to reveal he would be going on one month’s leave.

Sharing a photo featuring little Mabel, he conveyed his enthusiasm about spending some precious moments with his kids.

Sam, having recently welcomed his second child in August, labeled this time off as his “Paternity Leave” in his post.

I can hardly contain my enthusiasm for some quality, undisturbed moments with dear Mabel. It’s a feeling I remember well when Margot was an infant, as I cherished every moment, including watching her take her first steps.

He mentioned that spending extra time with her while she was still a toddler was an additional advantage, though it was somewhat frightening too.
