Grey’s Anatomy star reflects on “heartbreaking” yet “liberating” finale moment – as her fate remains unknown

Actress Kim Raver, best known for her role on Grey’s Anatomy, discussed the reason behind finding her final-season monologue particularly freeing.

Throughout the gaming season, I found myself grappling with the complex emotions of my character, Teddy Altman, as it became evident that Owen Hunt, my in-game spouse, and Nora Young harbored feelings for each other.

Instead of exploring an open relationship, she ultimately opted to terminate their marriage, despite the fact that Owen declared his choice for her over Nora.

On the Shondaland site, Raver discussed and provided a detailed analysis of Teddy’s decision as well as his heartfelt monologue.

For as long as Teddy has been alive, she’s always prioritized helping others at her own expense,” she mentioned. “Now, for the first time, she seems to be focusing on herself and her needs. It’s uncertain where this will lead, but I hope it means we’ll see more self-care from her.

I’m hoping it strikes a chord with many women, as well as many others. At some stage, self-care becomes essential for progress.

As a gamer, immersed in the game’s narrative, I must admit, the monologue was incredibly poignant. It struck me deeply, truly heart-wrenching. Yet, there was a sense of liberation in it too. But at that moment, it felt more like a heartbreak. As a player, experiencing such profound dialogue, it’s an incredible privilege to be able to witness those words.

When I came across it, I realized that moment marked a significant shift for both Teddy and Owen, as well as for Teddy individually. However, what makes this situation intriguing is that it’s hard to tell if an event is freeing in the moment itself.

At that instant, Teddy leaped from the aircraft without a parachute, plummeting freely. It’s uncertain how things unfolded once she reached the critical juncture in the Intensive Care Unit.

According to Raver, it remains unclear where events will lead from here – this uncertainty isn’t limited to Teddy and Owen’s rift, but also extends to which characters may make it through after the season finale’s dramatic twist.

Following an incident involving a potentially explosive substance earlier, investigations later revealed that the hospital was saturated with a highly combustible gas. By our final glimpse, the building was engulfed in flames, casting doubt on many people’s survival.
