Tom Hiddleston Keeps Talking About Avengers: Doomsday, But I’m Holding Strong To My Most Hopeful Loki Theory

Among the highly anticipated films slated for 2026, the Russo brothers’ Avengers: Doomsday boasts one of the largest ensembles of popular lead actors in any movie. Starring as Loki, Tom Hiddleston, is part of this talented group, dropping hints about his potential appearance in the MCU blockbuster, though not revealing much. Despite his latest remarks, I’m still hopeful for a favorable outcome regarding the time-manipulating god’s role in the film.

Generally speaking, Hiddleston’s comments regarding his role in ‘Doomsday’ have been brief yet pleasant, without delving into speculations about Robert Downey Jr.’s potential comeback as Doctor Doom, a topic that seems to never run out of discussion. In an interview with Men’s Health, the actor discussed getting ready for dance scenes in Mike Flanagan’s adaptation of Stephen King’s ‘The Life of Chuck’, a project also featuring Marvel Cinematic Universe veterans Chiwetel Ejiofor and Karen Gillan. When asked if he would cross paths with these actors again in the next ‘Avengers’ film, Hiddleston responded:

It’s a terrific question, and I’m not sure if I’m permitted to provide the truthful answer. However, I can assure you that I will indeed appear in Avengers: Doomsday, a fact that is confirmed. Additionally, I’ll be working alongside other actors in that movie, which is also a confirmed detail. Unfortunately, I can’t disclose the identities of these actors at this time.

It seems plausible that Tom Hiddleston might still collaborate with those two actors on the movie “Doomsday.” Although it’s unclear if Nebula (played by Karen Gillan) would logically meet up with Loki in this film, I find it possible that Chiwetel Ejiofor’s character could be involved in my optimistic theories.

But let’s first take a look at what else the British thesp had to say:

Playing Loki has been an incredibly exhilarating journey for me. This character has been a constant companion throughout much of my adulthood, offering a rich tapestry of depth, complexity, and variety. Each time I delve into him feels like a fresh, unique experience, and this time will be no exception. I feel fortunate to continue being part of the team exploring this complex character.

Based on what we’ve been told, Loki is still part of the team. Therefore, it’s best to pause those speculations about his death. Or at least tone them down temporarily until there’s more concrete information from the actors. Given that Loki has already “died” once, repeating that narrative might seem redundant. Instead, let’s don some optimistic glasses – green ones if you prefer – and focus on a brighter future for Loki.

My Best-Case Most Hopeful Loki Theory For Avengers: Doomsday

It’s likely that 90% of the potential outcomes for Avengers: Doomsday have already been suggested online, but I prefer to stay hopeful rather than being the only one with a positive outlook in this instance.

In my opinion, Loki’s scenes with other characters in “Avengers: Endgame” could unfold through flashbacks or dream sequences, or they might occur on an astral plane where Karl Mordo, played by Chiwetel Ejiofor, might join the action. Additionally, there’s a chance that a character with mystical abilities could engage in a conversation with present-day Loki without physically appearing before him, as long as it’s just a dialogue.

Due to the belief that Loki’s actions in the theory are crucial for maintaining the integrity of the timelines and multiverse, it seems disappointing that the entirety of Loki Season 2, which has already tackled Kang-related problems, could be disrupted in a manner that diminishes the significance of his sacrifice. Introducing Loki back into normal society to aid heroes in battling Doctor Doom might feel more like catering to fans than a genuine plot development.

It’s plausible that Loki might choose to relinquish his responsibilities temporarily to aid others, and then return to his time-managing role. However, such a situation seems overly complex, potentially leading to widespread confusion unless Tom Hiddleston provides us with more details or hints that suggest otherwise. For now, I’m inclined to believe that he will continue in his current role.

Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on December 18, 2026.
