BBC acquires “unique” Sheffield-set drama with “80s vibes” adapted from story that “grips from the start”
The BBC has acquired new romance series Mix Tape to air later this summer.
According to the novel penned by ex-BBC Radio 4 producer Jane Sanderson, titled similarly, the narrative revolves around Daniel and Alison, who first cross paths as adolescents in Sheffield during the 1980s, sharing a common love for music. He goes on to create a mix tape for her.
After many years have passed, Daniel remains in Sheffield, whereas Alison now resides in Australia, having relocated.

Yet, he initiates a friendship with her via Facebook, discovering common ground in their favorite tunes from their past experiences. This digital reunion stirs recollections – some pleasant and others not so much – which gradually creates tension with their respective partners.
In this four-segment production, Teresa Palmer from “The Fall Guy” and Jim Sturgess known for his work in “Cloud Atlas” take on leading roles, while Florence Hunt, who has appeared in “Bridgerton,” also makes an appearance.
The movie titled “Mix Tape” was shot in both Dublin and Sydney, and it’s set to debut this week on an Australian streaming platform. The BBC plans to broadcast it on BBC Two and make it available on iPlayer, though the specific dates have not been disclosed as of now.
The book received acclaim from both critics and enthusiasts, with Good Housekeeping magazine describing it as beautifully crafted and romantically engaging yet free of sentimentality.
