Sam Thompson remembers a very touching phone call he had with Jamie Laing that helped them mend their friendship after a major disagreement on Made In Chelsea.
TV personalities Sam, 33, and Jamie, 37, had a falling out on their show in 2019. This happened when Jamie started dating Sophie Habboo, now his wife and 31 years old, shortly after ending a six-month relationship with someone else in 2018.
On Wednesday’s episode of Jamie’s Great Company podcast, Sam revealed that Jamie apologized to him after finishing the incredibly difficult 150-mile Ultra Marathon.
On their podcast, Jamie brought up a past disagreement with Sam, asking him about a conversation they had after Jamie married Sophie. Jamie recalled attending his wedding, receiving a phone call from Sam, and wanted to know what Sam remembered him saying during that call.
Sam admitted he hadn’t properly apologized for not being truthful, saying, ‘I realize I never fully apologized for that, and I’m sorry.’
He continued: ‘Which is so wild because you were right, bygones, it was years ago mate,
I was genuinely thrilled for you both a few years ago, however long it’s been, but hearing you say that just now unexpectedly brought up a lot of feelings for me.
During the podcast, Sam explained why he was upset with Jamie’s actions.
Oh my god, he actually said it! He was totally joking with his friend, but it was the most amazing thing ever. He was like, ‘You always went for guys’ exes and girlfriends, you just couldn’t help yourself!’ It was so casually delivered, but it completely confirmed everything I’ve suspected for ages! I swear, they have a history – a deliciously scandalous history! I’m living for this!
You were young, and everyone makes mistakes. I specifically remember telling you afterward, ‘Please don’t do that,’ but it happened anyway.
I realized what happened because you didn’t tell me directly – I had to find out on my own. I was really surprised and upset that you hadn’t shared it with me. It seemed like a fleeting thing, and I wondered if it would be worth sacrificing everything else for it.
Even though Jamie secretly dated Sophie, who is now his wife, several years ago—something Sam didn’t know at the time—Sam now feels they were destined to be together and that everything happens for a reason.
He pointed out that despite initial reluctance, everything worked out wonderfully after they got married and had a child, just as he’d jokingly urged them to do. He believes some things are simply meant to be.
I believe everything happens for a reason, and maybe it was good I wasn’t on the show at that time. It likely gave you the freedom and space to truly connect with someone without the added pressure of me, one of your close friends, being around.
Honestly, I never imagined I’d miss it, but the thought that something beautiful could grow – something that feels like a real partnership – even without me there… it’s surprisingly hopeful. It’s like watching the potential for a true connection blossom, and I’m just really rooting for it to happen.
Sophie and Jamie tied the knot in a glamorous wedding in Spain in 2023, celebrating with their family and celebrity friends. The couple first met while filming the reality show Made In Chelsea in 2019.
Last December, the couple had a baby boy and shared his unique name, which was inspired by David Bowie.
Jamie shared the news with fans on Instagram, writing, ‘Ziggy, you have our whole hearts.’
The couple shared a photo of Jamie with his arms around Sophie as she cradled their newborn.
This couple loves David Bowie and used to display a Warhol print of his alter ego, Ziggy Stardust, in their previous home.
