Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen, 60, reveals he’s signed over the deeds to his home to his sons-in-law… after near-death experience on Celebrity Bear Hunt triggered an ‘end of life crisis’

Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen has revealed he no longer owns his home.

The renowned expert on interior design, aged 60, disclosed that he’s given over two out of every three parts of his extensive Cotswolds mansion to his two sons-in-law.

In an interview with The Sunday Times, Laurence casually observed, “I’m not the master of the estate anymore,” as he explained his distinct living situation.

Lawrence and his spouse, Jackie (aged 60), reside in the primary residence. Their daughter, Hermione (age 27), along with her husband, Drew (age 28), live there as well. They have two children: Romilly (two years old) and Eleanora (18 months).

In a converted garage building situated over the gravel driveway reside their daughter Cecile, aged 30, along with her husband Dan, also 30 years old, together with their kids Albion, eight, and Demelza, three.

Interestingly enough, Hermione disclosed that neither Cecile nor herself are listed as property owners, but they still stand to inherit it due to a peculiarity – it’s actually the spouses who hold the title.

Laurence later shared: ‘One of the strangest experiences was needing to meet with a lawyer to determine if Jackie and I were being manipulated into this situation by our domineering sons-in-law. Our friends find it hard to fathom. They often ask, “what if you all have disagreements?”‘

Yet Hermione explained that while they bicker all the time, they simply have to ‘get over it’.

Laurence, with a reported net worth of around £8 million, articulated his reasons for giving away his property now: “We don’t want to become the elderly individuals hoarding wealth, feeling miserable and isolated because of it.

Having an abundance of possessions yet not truly enjoying their advantages is our situation. Despite being highly fortunate, we’ve consciously chosen this path. We’ve effectively created and attracted this lifestyle into our lives.

Following Lawrence’s admission in January about experiencing a ‘life-ending crisis’ after a close brush with death on the Netflix series Bear Hunt, his choice to reassess his finances and assets can be seen as a response to this revelation.

Last May, while filming in Costa Rica, Lawrence joined other famous individuals participating in a water challenge. They were instructed to jump off a boat straight into the river.

However, he became entangled in a bungee rope and got stuck underneath the boat.

For a spell, he was submerged beneath the water for multiple nerve-wracking minutes, only to be rescued by the overseeing team during the stunt and subsequently lose awareness.

Afterward, Laurence playfully remarked that his spouse, Jackie, had labeled him as going through a ‘mid-life crisis’ when he shared with her about being part of the performance.

He thinks it seems like she’s going through a midlife crisis, but he keeps reminding her that he’s beyond that stage; instead, he believes this situation is indicative of an existential or late-life crisis, as he pondered.

She’s quite envious, to put it honestly, extremely so. She yearns for the opportunity to do it, and she’s often found herself a little peeved that nobody has ever invited her to participate in something similar.

Since she usually carries a SAS Survival Guide in her bag for any kind of situation, I intended to bring it myself, but unfortunately, I carelessly forgot about it once more.

Previously, Laurence mentioned his unique living arrangement. In an interview with the My Dirty Laundry podcast, he humorously described their home as being so vast that when he and his spouse weren’t there, it echoed like empty peas in a high-end canister.

As a lifestyle enthusiast, I firmly believe that shared living spaces, especially with one’s immediate family, can bring immense joy and strengthen bonds. Once upon a time, my home was adorned with luxurious accents, but now it gleams with the laughter and creativity of little ones, their toys becoming cherished additions to my interiors.

He emphasized that we’re not about to spend our sixtieth year in a state of boredom. Instead, we aim to make the most of our time, investing it with purpose. The environment we create for ourselves influences our emotional state, he pointed out.

In my home, I’ve got a grand mansion brimming with children, vibrant plastic toys scattered around, and once more, it’s the adorable world of Peppa Pig that dominates our space.

It seems like an action increasingly important for many individuals to undertake. For our baby boomer generation, reaching the age of 60 is quite unexpectedly achievable, leaving us all a bit taken aback.

It was generally assumed that we’d have a life filled with rapid pace and an early demise, instead it seems we’re living exceptionally long and gradually.
