Poh Ling Yeow is set to ‘leave her judging post on MasterChef’ – as executives eye off a fan favourite to replace her

It seems that MasterChef Australia fan favorite, Poh Ling Yeow, might be stepping down from her judging role, as the cooking competition goes through another change in its celebrity lineup.

The well-known chef, aged 51, is rumored to be planning her departure from the long-standing show after this season – leading producers to look for a replacement judge to join Andy Allen, Sofia Levin, and Jean-Christophe Novelli on the judging panel, according to New Idea.

Already, one name is being suggested as a possible substitute – the much-loved original participant, Julie Goodwin.

‘Julie would be a fantastic judge. Fans love her,’ a source told the outlet.

‘While no one wants to see Poh leave, everyone would welcome Julie back with open arms.’

54-year-old Julie, victor from the inaugural season of MasterChef in 2009, reappeared on the show in 2022 and later made an unexpected return as a guest judge in 2023.

According to sources, she deeply enjoyed her experience working from the opposite side of the bench and may be prepared for a long-term role there.

2022 saw Poh becoming a member of the judging panel. However, she’s openly acknowledged that this new role didn’t feel instinctive for her from the start.

This year, she shared during a conversation on the From The Newsroom podcast that she frequently envisions herself as a contestant once more.

She mentioned, “I often review the problems I’ve recently presented and imagine alternative solutions for them. That’s a testament to my enduring affection for it.

After Poh declared her departure from the kitchen, it was announced that she would be taking on a new role as the ambassador for Tourism NT.

– She shared her desire to motivate Australians to experience an uncommon, unique vacation in the northern regions.

Speaking about my passion for exploring different destinations, learning new things, and seeking inspiration, Poh expressed that the NT (Northern Territory) would be an ideal place for me.

As a lifestyle enthusiast, I am captivated by the breathtaking beauty of Australia’s Top End and the awe-inspiring Red Centre. Every corner of this remarkable land fills me with admiration, and I take great pride in sharing its wonders with others!

In her fresh position, Poh will emphasize the unique charm, diverse traditions, bustling culinary world, and artistic legacy of the Northern Territory.

Last year, Poh made her debut on The Australian Women’s Weekly’s Outback Christmas cover, and subsequently assumed the position following that appearance.

Since then, she’s been delving into the expansive region, renowned for its striking red desert vistas, and dropping by notable landmarks.

As the famous chef traversed the northern regions, they made delightful pauses at Litchfield National Park, Finniss River Lodge, and the tropical hub of Darwin during their journey.

Afterward, she navigated towards the heart of the Red Center, a region that includes Alice Springs (also known as Mparntwe), Hermannsburg (Ntaria), Ormiston Gorge, and the expansive Ellery Creek Big Hole, which she explored.

On her travel itinerary, too, were the Rainbow Valley Conservation Reserve and the awe-inspiring Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park.
