Coco Gauff gives Tyler the Creator a shoutout during French Open victory speech
As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but feel that Tyler, The Creator is often overlooked in the world of hip-hop, and I believe this may be an understatement, both now and potentially for all time. His innovative approach to music isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but his indifference towards pleasing the masses only serves to fuel his unwavering commitment to crafting unique and sincere tracks. To me, he is a testament to the power of staying true to oneself while pushing boundaries in the realm of hip-hop music.
However, he indeed has his loyal followers, and tennis sensation Coco Gauff is among them. On Saturday, the 21-year-old Gauff clinched her second career Grand Slam title at the French Open. In a thrilling match, she bested Aryna Sabalenka, winning in three sets with scores of 6-7(5) 6-2 6-4.
Following the match, Sabalenka delivered a heartfelt and passionate speech. After enduring two grueling weeks of intense tennis, both players showed signs of exhaustion, both physically and emotionally.

Regardless of the outcome, both parties were required to deliver post-game speeches. This is part of the custom, yet requesting physically drained athletes to give speeches straight after their competition concludes can be quite demanding, potentially leading to errors.
Similar to a perfectly struck match, Gauff’s speech was almost flawless. She didn’t just acknowledge Sabalenka’s exceptional play and express gratitude towards her team and parents, but also paid tribute to Tyler the Creator for a lyric that motivated her.
In his 2024 track “St. Chroma,” the rapper asserts, “I’ve never entertained a shadow of a doubt within me/If I’ve ever suggested otherwise, I was lying through my teeth.
During their conversation, Gauff discussed her belief in overcoming Sabalenka, who is currently ranked number one on the WTA tour. Neither of them had previously won the French Open, a tournament played on clay courts. Going into the match, neither player seemed more confident than the other. However, listening to Tyler the Creator boosted Gauff’s self-assurance.
As Gauff referenced in her speech, the rapper’s words about self-doubt resonated deeply. And here I am, acknowledging that I too had been deceiving myself (about my ability to win this match). But now, I’m ready to prove it wrong. So, a big shoutout to Tyler…let’s see what we can do!
So far, there’s been no response from the hip-hop artist on social media regarding the situation. Given that he’s quite active on X/Twitter, it’s possible we might see a reaction soon. Alternatively, it could be that he simply reaches out to Gauff personally with a call of appreciation and congratulations – that seems more in line with his usual manner.
