Oscar winner reveals his friends ‘canceled’ him for voting for Trump

A Hollywood award-winner shared that some of his closest friends cut ties with him following the disclosure of his choice to vote for Donald Trump in the 2024 U.S. presidential election, effectively ostracizing him from their circle.

73-year-old film producer Brian Grazer, renowned for movies like A Beautiful Mind and Apollo 13, shared insights on the response he encountered after expressing support for Donald Trump, in a Fox Nation documentary series named Art of the Surge.

In the documentary recorded during the Army versus Navy football game in December 2024, it’s clear that the star, who has previously supported the Democratic Party, was also present – and so was Trump.

At some point, Grazer stopped momentarily to snap a picture with the recently elected president within an exclusive lounge at the stadium. He also shared that he had voted for Trump, as reported by The New York Times in their coverage of the documentary series.

Additionally, Brian remembered mentioning to several females that he had cast his vote for – and admitted that it seemed as though he was being “silenced” or “excluded.

The producer stated, “‘Everyone looks on in surprise and asks, ‘Aren’t you backing Kamala?’ To which I replied, ‘I simply cannot support her.”

Then, one of them moved closer and asked, “Are you backing Trump?” To which I responded, “Yes, I am… honestly!

He subsequently provided more details about why he cast his vote for Trump during the previous year’s election, as he conversed with The New York Times.

According to Grazer, as a centrist, he noticed and felt Biden’s decline, as well as the absence of a clear path forward within the Democratic Party during that period.

Previously, a movie producer from Hollywood has been an advocate for Kamala Harris. In fact, he was among those who donated funds during her U.S. Senate campaign in 2015.

Additionally, Brian served as a film producer for the 2020 movie “Hillbilly Elegy,” a notable adaptation of the memoir penned by the current Vice President, JD Vance.

Upon its Netflix debut, the movie, helmed by director Ron Howard, drew a mix of positive and negative criticisms. However, it managed to secure two Academy Award nominations.

Grazer has been a prominent figure in the entertainment sector for many years, and has worked alongside Howard on various ventures.

The duo received an Oscar as the Best Picture of 2001 for the movie “A Beautiful Mind”, earning an extra seven nominations for Academy Awards.

In addition to being recognized with an Oscar for A Beautiful Mind, Grazer has also earned three additional nominations for his work on the films Splash (1984), Apollo 13 (1995), and Frost/Nixon (2008).

Grazer received an Oscar for A Beautiful Mind, but he’s also been nominated for three other prestigious awards in the movies Splash (1984), Apollo 13 (1995), and Frost/Nixon (2008).

Among the various productions Brian has handled throughout his career are films like “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” from 2000, “8 Mile” from 2002, “Cinderella Man” from 2005, and “The Da Vinci Code,” which was also released in 2006.

Apart from that, he’s worked on several television series, including Arrested Development, Parenthood, and Friday Night Lights.

In 1985, both Grazer and director Ron Howard jointly established the production company, Imagine Entertainment.

In 2019, Brian shared with The Los Angeles Times the reasons behind his and Howard’s decision to adapt JD Vance’s memoir, Hillbilly Elegy.

The producer shared that Ron and I create films centered around families, which resonate deeply with everyone, emphasizing their connection to family.

In “Parenthood,” we saw a somewhat troubled, yet still functional, extended family. In “Arrested Development,” things were much more chaotic and non-functional. This new show offers yet another perspective on the complexities and quirks that make up the American family.

He went on to say, ‘Everyone believes their family is disorganized. Regardless of how disorganized you believe your sibling to be, you value your family.’

Other well-known Hollywood figures, including Zachary Levi, the actor, have openly expressed their support for Donald Trump in public.

In a recent chat with Variety, the actor from Shazam! revealed that there are individuals who supported Donald Trump in the upcoming 2024 presidential election, but they feel too apprehensive to openly express their choice.

Levi stated, ‘I can verify this fact as I have received numerous thankful messages from individuals whom I prefer not to identify, expressing their gratitude for my stance.’

Additionally, they often shared with me their fear of taking action, saying, “I desire to do it, but I’m terrified.” To which I would respond, “Remember, you’re each walking your own path. I’m on mine. Keep faith in the journey and trust in God.

Speaking directly, let me encourage you: If the spirit moves you to take a bold step, do so with confidence, knowing you will navigate through just fine. But if you’re not feeling that certainty yet, it’s perfectly alright too. There’s no pressure or need for immediate action; take your time when you feel ready.

Last October, Zachary encouraged those with conservative beliefs hidden within Hollywood to openly support Donald Trump before the elections.

In a previous instance, the actor expressed his backing for Robert F. Kennedy Jr., but later on Instagram, he appealed to those who secretly support conservative ideas or Trump, stating, ‘Now is the time to come out of hiding! You understand what I’m saying, right?’

Feel free to act as you see fit based on your needs. If expressing yourself openly seems necessary, go ahead, but if it feels too challenging for you at this moment, it’s perfectly fine to keep things private.

Levi commented, “I wouldn’t force you in any way, but understand this: If your fear stems from a sector that may not survive for long, then please don’t let its potential demise prevent you.

Zachary confessed to having disliked Trump previously, but he’s now leaning towards not voting for Democrats because of the perceived “deep-rooted corruption” within the government.

Additionally, actors such as Vince Vaughn, Mel Gibson, and James Woods are among those in the Hollywood community expressing approval for the 47th U.S. President.
