Hugh Jackman gives small Melbourne theatre huge celebrity endorsement

Hugh Jackman has given a huge shout out to a little local theatre in regional Victoria. 

On Saturday, the well-known Australian actor, aged 56, used his Instagram Stories to encourage followers to support his former drama school friend, Mark Constable, as he presents an Australian comedy in Macedonia.

Regardless of your location, whether it’s Australia or elsewhere, if you fancy a trip to Mount Macedon near Melbourne, you’ll find a charming little theater known as the Mountview Theatre, according to Hugh.

They’re putting on a performance of the delightful Appleton Ladies Potato Race play. It’s a true gem, guaranteed to touch your heart and bring laughter. You might even find yourself rolling with laughter!

The film is helmed by an exceptional friend of mine, Mark Constable, whom I attended drama school with. He’s incredibly talented, and I can’t help but vouch for his brilliance. Simply put, he’s fantastic.

The Mountview Theatre can accommodate up to 100 people, and the play is scheduled to run over three weekend dates starting from June 13 until June 29.

‘Although I have a funny feeling it may get extended,’ Hugh said. 

In a summary for the play, it’s stated that when Dr. Penny Anderson, the recently appointed GP in town, goes back to her hometown of Appleton, she is taken aback to discover that the prize for the local potato race remains at $1000 for male participants and only $200 for female contestants.

Eager to modernize this old practice, she embarks on a journey to create equality. However, she encounters resistance, particularly from pragmatic Bev, who perceives Penny as an urban intruder potentially disturbing rural customs.

The main cast for the heartwarming Australian comedy includes Margot Knight, Shayne Francis, Sharnie Page, Sophie Cleary, and Sheila Kumar.

Recently, Hugh, who’s currently captivating audiences with his one-person live spectacle at Radio City and his latest off-Broadway production titled ‘The Sexual Misconduct of the Middle Classes’, graced Good Morning America for a discussion on his reasons for returning to the stage.

He confessed that he wasn’t performing as much as he desired, given his passion for it. In other words, he felt he wasn’t spending enough time on the stage, which is something he deeply cherishes and believes should be accessible to all.

During his chat, Hugh shared that he often feels more at ease on stage than in everyday life. He confessed he can’t quite pinpoint why, but he’s living the dream.

In Hugh’s portrayal of Scandals among the Middle Class, he is involved in numerous passionate kissing scenes with his fellow actor, Ella Beatty, who is 25 years old.

The pair were seen larking around in rehearsals this week. 

Hugh was embracing the rising actress, who happens to be the daughter of iconic Hollywood figure Warren Beatty. His face gleamed with happiness as he flashed a thumbs-up to the camera.

Reports indicate that Hugh has been intensifying his performances, given his ongoing romance with Broadway actress Sutton Foster.

50-year-old Foster recently made a surprise appearance backstage, attempting to silence rumors suggesting their relationship may have encountered difficulties since becoming public knowledge in January.

However, given that the show’s explicit scenes might not be comfortable to witness, it could be challenging for Foster, who is said to have developed a relationship with the actor from The Greatest Showman during their time playing romantic leads together offstage.

Further stirring rumors, recently taken pictures depict them intertwining fingers during the final bow, causing quite a buzz among onlookers.

The two beamed with pride, looking completely at ease with the intimate gesture.  

Beyond the passionate, steamy kisses, Hugh’s dialogue becomes quite intense as well. He uses strong language, even graphic descriptions, such as a vivid portrayal of a college cheerleader performing an act on him.

Offstage, Hugh’s own split from Deborra-Lee Furness seems to mirror the emotional storm.

In September 2023, the actor, who’s been married just once, made public his separation from Deborra-Lee Furness, aged 69, following 27 years of wedlock.

In their shared declaration, they stated that they would be moving in different directions and chose to part ways in order to focus on personal development independently.

The couple share two adopted children, Oscar, 24, and Ava, 19.

Hugh and Sutton’s relationship reportedly overlapped with the end of his marriage. 

For many years, they’ve been friends, both being part of the same theatrical community. However, it wasn’t until recently, when pictures surfaced of them holding hands, that they chose to make their relationship more open and visible to the public.
