Avengers: Doomsday Will Transform U.S. Agent Completely, Fans Are Not Ready
As a die-hard Marvel fan, I’m thrilled to share that one of my favorite Thunderbolts characters is poised for significant transformations in Marvel Studios’ upcoming blockbuster, Avengers: Doomsday. The team itself is bracing for a massive overhaul following its new moniker as the New Avengers within the MCU. However, it’s on an individual level that fans are in for some exciting surprises as we delve deeper into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Wyatt Russell, who plays an agent in the U.S., hinted at the transformations his character will undergo in the 2026 movie “Avengers: Doomsday,” following his prominent role in the 2025 film “Thunderbolts.” Having joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) in 2021’s “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” Russell is set to appear for the third time in the MCU, portraying a character who has already been involved in some high-octane action during his time with the franchise.
As a passionate movie-goer, I recently shared with The Hollywood Reporter my insights about the character of John Walker in Thunderbolts. Contrary to the initial portrayal fans saw on Disney+, this version of John Walker is distinct. But that’s not all! When I reprise my role as John Walker in Avengers: Doomsday, you can expect a fresh take on the character yet again.
In the series “Falcon and the Winter Soldier” from 2020, the character John Walker I portrayed is significantly distinct from the one you may see in “Thunderbolts.” Moreover, I anticipate that he will be a different character yet again in “Avengers: Doomsday.
In the most recent instalment, John Walker, portrayed by Russell’s character, appeared for the second time in the MCU within “Thunderbolts”. He was initially working under Valentina Allegra de Fontaine before joining forces with the rest of the film’s main characters. The audience witnessed a flashback showing his wife departing with their son, yet he also demonstrated courage by stepping into a heroic role and showcased his potential as an asset to a team during combat situations.
Following this, Russell will be part of the already expansive ensemble in the upcoming film “Avengers: Cataclysm“. As the months pass, more stars are expected to be announced for the project. The movie features a combination of Avengers, X-Men, Fantastic Four, and other notable Marvel characters, all uniting to thwart Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom from causing widespread destruction. “Avengers: Cataclysm” is currently in production and is scheduled for release in theaters on December 18, 2026.
What to Expect From Wyatt Russell’s U.S. Agent in Avengers: Doomsday
As a film enthusiast, I’m excitedly peering into the future at the upcoming film titled “Doomsday.” In this movie, John Walker – wielding a still-warped shield – will join forces with an all-new team that goes by the name of the New Avengers. This team includes none other than Bucky Barnes, Ava Starr, Alexei Shostakov, Robert Reynolds, and Yelena Belova.
Intriguingly, there’s already a hint of an encounter with the Fantastic Four at the conclusion of their individual film (approximately 14 months after the events of “Thunderbolts”). With that tantalizing teaser in place, “Doomsday” promises to plunge Walker into unfamiliar waters once more.
Because Doomsday boasts a large ensemble, it remains undecided how much screen time or emphasis will be given to advancing John Walker’s narrative, since this applies to each principal character in the film. However, despite having previously faced the dread of the Void, this marks the first time Walker will come across characters and perils originating from beyond his own realm.
Working alongside several other powerful warriors and the present Captain America, Walker can expect encounters with threats that surpass anything he’s previously imagined in the battle against Doom. It remains uncertain whether this alliance will result in a broader or more balanced understanding of life overall, but it is certain that his focus on priorities will need to be sharpened as he proceeds with his new teammates.
In this movie, Walker, being one of a few super-soldiers, may not have the same level of combat prowess as characters with extraordinary physical abilities. Yet, the battles ahead are expected to be challenging, requiring teamwork for victory. Thus, it’s crucial for Walker to avoid creating any distractions or complications while he and his fellow heroes strive to preserve humanity.
