Who Will Lead the Harrigans in MobLand Season 2? Kevin’s Rise or External Threats?

Warning! This article contains spoilers for MobLand season 1 and mentions of rape!

In season 1 of the series titled “MobLand,” we witnessed the intense conflict between the Harrigans and Stevensons, two powerful drug cartels, as their domains reached a critical point. This gripping British crime drama was masterfully crafted by Ronan Bennett, with Jez Butterworth penning or collaborating on every episode. Notably, Guy Ritchie, known for hits like “Snatch” and “Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels,” took up the role of executive producer and helmed the direction of the first two episodes.

Over the course of the series, it became evident that the Harrigan family was gradually losing their dominance over the drug trade. This conflict with the Stevensons intensified, becoming deeply personal as members from both families were viciously slain. Conrad (Pierce Brosnan) and his wife Maeve (Helen Mirren) were at the helm, but as the story unfolded, their leadership began to crumble. By the end of season 1 on MobLand, they found themselves behind bars, leaving uncertainty about who would assume control – a question that grew more pressing after Richie Stevenson met his demise.

Kevin Should Lead The Harrigan Family

Kevin Has Finally Stepped Up As A Leader

In the first season, each of Conrad’s offspring assumed distinct roles, but it was Kevin who underwent the most transformation. Initially shy and easily influenced, he eventually stood up to his father in prison, demonstrating his readiness to take charge of the Harrigan family. Kevin experiences a series of hardships, including the tragic loss of his brother Brendan with a chainsaw, and the heart-wrenching revelation that his son Eddie is another one of Conrad’s children. Furthermore, he confronts and takes revenge on the man who had raped him as a child.

In the concluding episode of season 1 of MobLand, Kevin assumes leadership with Conrad and Maeve behind bars. Kevin then calls upon Harry, played by Tom Hardy, for assistance, ultimately leading to the demise of Richie Stevenson. When Kevin confronts Conrad, he proclaims that the Harrigan name will regain significance. If Kevin remains steadfast, he could serve as a balancing influence following a tumultuous conflict marked by casualties and devastation. With leadership in disarray after the chaos, someone is needed to step up and take charge.

Other Players Will Be Vying For Power

Control Of The Family Will Play A Big Part In The Story Going Forward

It’s uncertain how many relatives will align with Kevin, as he persists in clinging to his power and devises a strategy to break out of prison alongside Maeve. Meanwhile, Maeve seems to be working with Eddie to seize control of the family. Now that Eddie has discovered Conrad is his father, their tense relationship may worsen due to the lack of blood ties between them. If Maeve can’t represent the Harrigan family publicly, she might still manage to manipulate others into carrying out her tasks for her.

It’s possible that Seraphina Harrigan (Mandeep Dhillon) could attempt to seize power within the family. Although not blood-related to Maeve, she demonstrates a remarkable intellect among the Harrigan siblings. However, much of her activities lie beyond the immediate family business, which might pose challenges in garnering support. Despite her competence, there was an instance where Seraphina narrowly escaped death, and this could cast doubt on her suitability to lead among other family members.

Kat McCallister (played by Janet McTeer) exhibits a desire to take over the Harrigan empire as well. The extent of her authority within the underworld remains unclear, but she is portrayed as a potent figure with greater sway than any member of the Harrigan or Stevenson families. Since Harry declined her job proposal, Kat seems determined to seize more power and could potentially displace the Harrigans while Conrad is incarcerated.

Amidst the chaos that ensued after Ritchie’s passing within the Stevenson clan, I find myself in a position where I might step up and try to regain control. Yet, if Kevin manages to keep his allegiance strong, he could potentially resist those attempting to seize power in our world, which we refer to as MobLand.
