Adolescence star Owen Cooper collects IndieWire Honor’s Breakthrough Award in LA as he’s tipped for Emmys success

16-year-old acting prodigy, Owen Cooper, flashed a wide grin while receiving the Breakthrough Award at the IndieWire Honors ceremony held in Los Angeles.

The fifteen-year-old newcomer received international acclaim for his powerful performance as the child murderer, Jamie Miller, in the highly successful Netflix series.

IndieWire commended Owen’s acting as being “equally intense, moving, terrifying, and poignant.

Currently, he’s predicted to receive numerous accolades due to his outstanding performance, and he already has the Gotham TV Award under his belt for Exceptional Supporting Role in a Limited Series.

Additionally, Owen has been put forward as a contender in the “Best Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or TV Movie” category at this year’s Astra TV Awards.

In the role, Owen made his first on-screen appearance as a new, undiscovered northern English talent, handpicked by the co-creator of the series, Stephen Graham.

Owen is said to have been the standout talent from a pool of 500 auditions.

Currently, there are rumors suggesting that he might be nominated for the category of Best Supporting Actor in a Limited Series, Anthology Series, or a Movie at the Emmy Awards.

If the teen is nominated, he will be the youngest person to ever receive the honour.

According to Variety, it’s possible that Stephen Graham, who is 51 years old and portrayed Owen’s father on the series, might be nominated for the prestigious Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series award.

After the success of the mini-series, Owen shared insights about his unconventional return to school following his starring role in the popular Netflix program.

At only 13 years old, this rising teenage sensation had already secured the part of Jamie, a student falsely accused of violently killing a fellow classmate who happened to be a young woman.

As a lifestyle expert, I find it captivating to express that his chilling performance has earned him noteworthy roles – notably, as the young Heathcliff in Emerald Fennell’s Wuthering Heights adaptation, and an appearance in Amy Lou Wood’s upcoming series, Film Club.

In an interview with The New York Times, Owen admitted his return to normality was ‘a bit mad’.

In conversation with a media outlet together with co-star Stephen Graham, who portrays his character’s father Eddie in the series, the youthful performer disclosed that he garnered considerable interest from young students upon his return to school on Monday.

Then, he remarked that Tuesday seemed slightly more favorable to him, but this comment sparked curiosity in Stephen who asked, “What sort of issue are you referring to?

As a devoted follower, I can confirm that what happened wasn’t something concerning – merely kids approaching me, calling out my name, and then scampering off without delay.

His on-screen father Stephen smiled as he responded: ‘Ah, just some silly b*******.’

In the wake of the announcement, it’s clear that “Adolescence” has made a significant impact on Netflix’s global rankings, amassing an astounding 96.7 million views within a mere three-week period.
