Criminal Code Season 3: Will Netflix Renew the Hit Crime Series?
Actress Maeve Jinkings, known for her Netflix roles, subtly hints at upcoming news about Criminal Code Season 3, exciting fans. This streaming series centered around crime and thriller recently aired its second season on the platform, featuring Jinkings as Detective Suellen – a Brazilian federal officer who discovers more than expected while exposing a vast criminal scheme that potentially reaches the highest echelons of power.
Actress Maeve Jinkings, who plays a role in “Criminal Code,” unintentionally hinted at Season 3 of the popular streaming program during a recent interview. So far, the show has been doing well on Netflix, but there’s still no official word from the streaming platform about a third season.
In an interaction with film journalist Leozito Rocha, Jinkings hinted at the possibility of a Season 3 for the first time during their discussion about resurrecting one of the characters her role had eliminated in the third episode of Season 2.
Q: “You killed a considerate amount of extras, was that an act or was it a prior warning?”
A heads-up beforehand?”
…
“It wasn’t the script, it was the acting. She isn’t telling the truth. For heaven’s sake, I’m your friend. Don’t come here and say you want to harm others.”
…
“I made an attempt to help him secure a cameo in episode three of season three.
It’s quite unusual for someone linked to the show to hint at a third season, which has left many fans excitedly speculating that Jinkings might be planning more episodes for the Brazilian crime saga.
In another part of the interview, when asked about her preparation for portraying Detective Suellen, she mentioned that she had studied to convincingly play a police officer. However, she added that there was also a personal aspect of herself in the character.
Q: “Hi, did you study to play a police officer or are you using your own essence?”
In other words, “While I trained to portray a police officer, I must admit there was an aspect of myself revealed during the role… Not the one responsible for the death in the third episode, but indeed, I found some personal depth within that character.
In 2023, the series “Criminal Code” made its premiere on Netflix, garnering impressive feedback as it swiftly ascended to the platform’s worldwide top 10 list, making it one of the unexpected sensations of that particular year.
In a fresh development on June 4th, Season 2 made its debut, picking up from the gripping storyline of Season 1. In this continuation, Meave Jinkings’ character Suellen finds herself entangled in the enigmatic activities of the Ghost Gang, working side by side with her gruff partner Benício, played by Rômulo Braga, to unravel the mysteries surrounding them.
Will Criminal Code Season 3 Ever Happen?
As a movie enthusiast penning this review, I can’t help but ponder the possibility of a third season for the gripping series “Criminal Code.” With the second season freshly unveiled, it remains an enigma whether Netflix intends to continue the captivating narrative.
The announcement for Season 2 didn’t come immediately after Season 1, instead, it wasn’t until April of this year (nearly 18 months post-Season 1 premiere) that the production of additional episodes was confirmed to be underway.
Essentially, the decision about whether Netflix will consider Season 3 hinges on the success of Season 2.
It’s important to mention that Season 1, launched in November 2023, achieved incredible popularity on Netflix. Based on their internal statistics, this show reached the top position in Netflix’s Top 10 Non-English Series not only in Brazil but also globally. Furthermore, it held the title of the most-watched series in 22 countries during its debut week on the platform (as reported by TUDUM).
Regarding Season 2, it’s still too soon to accurately gauge whether it will match the phenomenal success of Season 1.
Or:
For now, we can’t yet determine if Season 2 will rival the incredible performance of Season 1.
In Brazil, the latest season is gathering momentum and ranks among the top ten non-English shows. However, it hasn’t left a significant mark in any other major regions as of yet, with just a few hours of its worldwide release on Netflix.
As a movie enthusiast, I’m crossing my fingers that the momentum for this exciting new series picks up as more episodes unfold on the streaming service during its first week. I truly hope it begins to populate Top 10 lists worldwide, demonstrating its potential to warrant another season.
Heitor Dhalia, being a passionate supporter of the series, is likely keeping a close eye on the viewership numbers, as he was extremely excited about Season 2 and would probably feel the same way for a potential Season 3.
