Tires Season 2 Finale: Will Valley Forge Survive and What’s Next for Shane & Will?
WARNING: SPOILERS ahead for Tires season 2.
In the finale of season 2, Shane and Will brainstorm a strategy to keep Valley Forge afloat under Phil, Shane’s father’s management. Their earlier attempt in season 1 to sell tires at cost had shown promise but failed when Will’s father turned down a loan that was meant to expand the business, leading it back into financial trouble. As a result, Will finds himself in a difficult position where he must deceive his friend Ryan, who works for a large tire corporation named True Threads, causing Ryan public humiliation at the Tri-State Mid-Market Tire Expo.
In the concluding episode of season 2 of Tires, Phil faces the tough decision of making budget reductions to save Valley Forge, potentially leading to Dave losing his position as general manager. Moreover, following Ron White’s (playing the role of a former NASCAR star) accident with Cal’s cherished vintage MGB convertible, Cal contemplates resignation. Simultaneously, Shane attempts to mend fences with Kelly after his unfounded jealousy over her possible feelings for coworker Ollie surfaces unexpectedly. The season ends with Pete getting dismissed from True Thread for accepting bribes, while Valley Forge manages to endure and carry on.
How Shane’s “Fleet Accounts” Plan Can Keep Valley Forge In Business
Shane Found A Clever Way To Guarantee Future Business & Sales
At the close of season 2 for Valley Forge, their financial predicament becomes quite significant. To everyone’s surprise, even Shane—who has never shown interest in climbing the ranks beyond his mechanic role—finds a solution to secure regular business from local vendors and corporations. This business they refer to as “fleet accounts.” In return for exclusively using Valley Forge for their vehicle servicing needs, Shane promises these companies, such as Kelly’s catering business, a consistent 10% discount. By the end of the episode, Shane manages to seal a few of these deals, with aspirations to grow this network even more in the event of a third season.
Shane’s swift decision and action provide a temporary reprieve for Valley Forge, as they grapple with the aftermath of the failed True Thread deal. Since much of the narrative in seasons 1 and 2 of “Tires” revolves around finding ways to keep Valley Forge afloat, Shane’s “fleet accounts” strategy might offer a short-term fix. However, it remains uncertain whether this approach will be the lasting solution that the auto repair shop requires in the long run.
Why Phil Changed His Mind About Firing Dave
Phil Took Will’s Advice & Chose To Keep The Team Together
A significant part of Phil’s plan to maintain Valley Forge and reduce expenses involved letting go of Dave, who had grown increasingly unpopular and ignored within the company during season 2 of Tires, following his affair with Lisa, the receptionist, being revealed. To be honest, Phil never held much regard for Dave, referring to him as Dale when they first met, and growing increasingly irritated by Dave’s obvious efforts to win him over.
In the end, Phil chose not to dismiss Dave despite finding him at the Valley Forge Belmont branch with his financial advisor in his motorhome. Instead, Phil opted to tackle the company’s challenges directly, as opposed to letting the recently divorced Dave leave.
Did Kelly Cheat On Shane With Ollie?
Shane Inadvertently Manifested His Own Insecurity
In a surprising and peculiar twist of events, Shane and Kelly ended their relationship, though it may be questionable whether they were truly together, following Cal’s intrusion into Kelly’s connection with her coworker from the catering team, Ollie. The Valley Forge group, including Shane, had growing suspicions that Ollie was interested in Kelly due to their interactions, which eventually fostered a sense of insecurity that unintentionally led to a relationship between Kelly and Ollie.
Despite Shane’s continuous attempts to reconcile with Kelly, it seemed undeniable that they were no longer an item following Cal’s investigation which significantly strained her bond with Ollie. Shane’s actions towards Kelly might have pushed her out of the equation for a potential season 3, as she may no longer be interested.
Why Shane Got Cal A Vintage MGB Convertible
Shane Felt Partially Responsible For Ron Totaling Cal’s Other One
In a turn of events, Cal was distraught when Ron recklessly drove his classic MGB convertible and ended up damaging it beyond repair in the parking lot. Shane felt remorseful for enabling Ron’s recklessness and decided to make amends by gifting Cal a similar, refurbished red vintage MGB. During a discussion about business accounts with Tommy, Shane managed to acquire this car despite his financial struggles. This thoughtful gesture could potentially influence Cal’s decision to stay at Valley Forge, as he was contemplating leaving in the season 2 finale.
Who Got Pete Seidel Fired From True Thread
Will Told The Local Reporter That Pete Was Taking Bribes
In the second season’s near-conclusion, the news correspondent from Tires’ inaugural season resurfaces, this time quizzing Will concerning misleading radio advertisements touting discounts not provided by Valley Forge. The reporter appeared to be crafting another exposé aimed at casting Valley Forge in a negative light. Upon learning the genuine reasons behind True Thread’s contract breach, which made it economically impractical for Valley Forge to sell tires at cost, the reporter developed an interest in Pete Seidel, a True Thread employee who accepted bribes in exchange for business deals. Will reveals all to the reporter, who pens an article on Pete and True Thread that ultimately leads to his dismissal.
How Tires Season 2’s Ending Sets Up Season 3
Valley Forge Bought Some Time & Shane Found His Ambition
In my humble opinion as a movie critic, the finale of season 2 for “Tires” offers a glimmer of optimism regarding Valley Forge’s continued operation. With Will stepping into the role of branch manager, Phil remaining the owner, and Shane honing his skills as a mechanic with aspirations to become an assistant manager, it seems that this tire shop is here to stay.
Much like other office-based comedies, the unique setting of Valley Forge plays a crucial role in its narrative fabric. This implies that despite encounters with numerous challenges that could potentially jeopardize the future of Valley Forge, the series will likely remain rooted in this place. Thus, it’s safe to say that our heroes Will and Shane will continue to navigate their way through the ups and downs of tire shop management, ensuring that they always find a path forward.
Regarding Cal, it appears he might change his mind following Shane’s generous gift of the MGB. There could also be a blossoming relationship between Cal and Kilah. Phil should reappear as a regular character given his significant role at Valley Forge now. Since Pete is no longer with True Thread, Ryan and Will may reconcile, negotiate a mutually beneficial agreement, and perhaps even develop a friendship again. Shane might be demonstrating ambition for the first time at Valley Forge, which could propel him further in a potential third season of Tires, especially since it seems Kelly has ended things with Shane permanently.
