Wicked: For Good trailer is still hiding a mystery over who is playing Dorothy

At last, we have the trailer for “Wicked: For Good“! However, a significant enigma surrounding the movie remains unanswered – who will portray Dorothy in this production?

In the continuation of the 2024 Academy Award-winning fantasy film “Wicked”, Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande revisit the enchanting realm of Oz, portraying Elphaba and Glinda once more.

The much-awaited sneak peek at the movie reveals the aftermath of Elphaba and Glinda’s falling out, as well as Elphaba’s mission to unmask the true nature of the Wizard.

Moreover, it’s not just this one secret hidden within the trailer; fans are also left in suspense about who will portray Dorothy Gale, the Kansas farmgirl, who along with her dog Toto, finds herself mysteriously transported to the land of Oz.

In the preview, you can catch a peek at the character wearing her iconic blue and white checkered gown, though her facial features remain hidden. As of now, no actor has been officially cast for this part.

Speculations abound regarding who might take on the famous part, a role once held by Judy Garland as Dorothy in the 1939 film “The Wizard of Oz”.

Many people think that Alisha Weir, who is known for her roles in “Wicked Little Letters” and “Abigail,” might be cast in an upcoming role. The actor herself has addressed the wild rumors about it earlier this year.

When she came across the rumor, she found it utterly unbelievable and it quickly spiraled out of control on social platforms. Everyone started inquiring about it from her, to which she responded, “That would simply be marvelous.” (She said this to Irish broadcaster RTÉ.)

I absolutely love the musical ‘Wicked’, and I had the pleasure of watching it with my family for the first time. I’m a huge admirer of Jon M. Chu’s work, as well as Ariana Grande and Cynthia – it would be fantastic if they were involved in any future productions.

Jon M. Chu, the director, shared deeper details about the character and the amount of screen time she’ll have in a conversation with Vanity Fair.

He mentioned that the specific intersection was where we initially encountered the land of Oz, as depicted when Dorothy started her journey along the Yellow Brick Road in the preview.

As a gamer putting myself in the director’s shoes for the Wicked film universe, I can say that we strive to give Dorothy a more significant role compared to the stage show. While we want to stay true to the original story, we aim to explore how this change affects our characters and the narrative in a way that might be deeper than the play itself. We handle these changes with care, always keeping in mind the sensitivity required for such an iconic tale.

Fortunately, fans won’t have a prolonged wait to discover the actress portraying Dorothy as “Wicked: For Good” is set to premiere on the big screen this fall.

Wicked: For Good is released in cinemas on 21 November.
