AMC Networks partners with AI startup Runway
AMC Networks, famous for hit shows like “Breaking Bad” and “The Walking Dead,” has teamed up with AI company Runway to leverage AI technology in their promotions and show production.
Runway’s artificial intelligence (AI) will make it simpler for AMC Networks to find striking moments and create visuals for marketing purposes by facilitating easy access to them.
The technology will additionally aid in accelerating the “pre-conception visualization” process during production. This refers to the stage where studios create and visualize the appearance of a show, as well as plan out scenes, prior to actual filming.
Runway also said AMC Networks is exploring AI to be used for honing special effects ideas.
In a statement, Stephanie Mitchko, the executive vice president of global media operations and technology at AMC Networks, expressed her perspective on the transformative capabilities of AI within their business. She believes that AI presents significant chances to not only improve our marketing strategies but also strengthen our creative processes.
Mitchko stated that our goal is to utilize all available resources to ensure our creative collaborators can effectively bring their narratives to life in their entirety.

With the continuous progress of artificial intelligence, it’s anticipated that there will be an increase in collaborations between tech firms, production studios, and artistic talents. However, significant hurdles persist.
Entertainments firms are investigating methods to incorporate AI into their operations, with advocates arguing that it could lower expenses and provide creative minds with the freedom to experiment on daring concepts without worrying too much about financial limitations.
Previously, Runway entered into an alliance with Lionsgate, whereby Runway will develop a novel AI model for the studio, aimed at enhancing backstage tasks such as storyboarding. It’s worth noting that their technology has already been employed in shows like “House of David” on Amazon Prime Video, as reported by Variety.
As a movie enthusiast, I’m excited to be part of shaping the future of media. The way content is created, approved, and distributed is evolving at an unprecedented pace, and this transformation is influencing aspects such as production schedules, techniques, and even marketing strategies. Cristóbal Valenzuela, co-founder and CEO of Runway, expressed this in a statement.

Google is supporting short films that shift focus from AI catastrophe predictions, instead exploring the positive aspects and advantages of this technology.
The use of AI in Hollywood sparks ongoing debate. Many artists and union members voice worries over potential job losses. Writers, specifically, have voiced frustration about instances where AI is utilizing their scripts without consent or fair remuneration.
In simpler terms, tech leaders argue that they can educate artificial intelligence systems using content found online, based on the principle known as “fair use.” This principle permits restricted duplication of materials without seeking approval from the original copyright owner.
The development of AI filmmaking technology is progressing swiftly, as demonstrated by Google’s unveiling of Veo 3, a text-to-video tool, and Flow editing software. However, industry experts emphasize that AI companies must secure content licenses from professional studios to fully unlock the potential of these tools.
