Alfie Boe says he suffers ‘daily battle’ to forgive himself for his divorce and fears for his kids living in the States – after claiming he ‘couldn’t tell the truth’ about his 2020 split

Alfie Boe has spoken about the lasting emotional pain from his divorce, revealing he ‘struggles every day to forgive himself‘.

The 52-year-old opera singer and his ex-wife, Sarah, who is from Utah, split up in 2020 after being married for 16 years. Sarah then returned to the United States with their two children, 17-year-old Grace and 13-year-old Alfie, where they previously lived as a family.

Before his new album comes out, Alfie spoke about the long-term emotional effects of his breakup, which led to him seeking treatment in rehab for five weeks after an overdose.

It’s a daily struggle to learn self-forgiveness and grow into a better person by accepting my past self.

He recently admitted he hasn’t been honest about the reasons for his separation. He explained that people don’t understand why his children no longer live with him, and he feels it’s regrettable that he can’t share the full story, choosing instead to remain dignified.

Since 2018, Alfie and Sarah have been raising their children in the Cotswolds after moving there from the US.

Confined together during the 2020 Covid pandemic, their relationship problems became impossible to ignore, leading them to decide to separate.

Alfie has confirmed reports that he and Sarah have separated. He released a statement saying they have split up after rumors about their marriage ending.

I care deeply for Sarah. She’s been a wonderful partner and a fantastic mother to our two children, and we’re separating on good terms.

Alfie now admits he is having to think about and grow from his mistakes’.

He shared that learning from mistakes is essential for personal growth. He’s always believed in bouncing back from setbacks, noting that anyone who’s experienced a separation or divorce understands it’s a challenging and lengthy process.

He talked about his marriage and also expressed worry about his children growing up during a time of increasing unrest in the United States.

He admitted it was difficult knowing his children lived so far away. He watches a lot of US news and finds the current events there worrying.

Last year, Alfie revealed he was dating Elizabeth Worth, 29, posting a picture of them on a romantic date at London’s Savoy Hotel.

This is Alfie’s first new relationship since he briefly dated Hannah Waddingham, the star of Ted Lasso, last year.

They’d been friends for years, but were both always dating other people. In 2022, they both found themselves single at the same time and started going on dates, including some memorable evenings at Scott’s in Richmond.

The Sun reports that Hannah, 51, secretly brought Alfie backstage at Eurovision to hide their relationship.

Because Hannah’s career was really taking off, she wanted her work to speak for itself, so she and her partner intentionally kept their relationship private.

It was particularly challenging to maintain secrecy while Eurovision was happening, as all attention was focused on her.

They were able to get Alfie backstage without anyone noticing, and they kept it quiet. The romance has ended, but they’re still friends.
