Vin Diesel Faces Ongoing Sexual Battery Lawsuit Despite Discrimination Claims Dropped
In 2023, a lawsuit brought against Vin Diesel by his former assistant, Asta Jonasson, was resolved in Diesel’s favor on certain points. Nevertheless, he continues to face substantial accusations of sexual battery and wrongful dismissal, which are expected to be examined by the court.
In a court case, Diesel successfully argued for the dismissal of four employment discrimination charges brought by Jonasson. The incident in question took place in 2010, which previously would have been past the statute of limitations. However, with the signing of the Sexual Abuse and Cover Up Accountability Act by Governor Gavin Newsom in 2023, some expired claims related to sexual assault from as early as 2009 could be reconsidered. To initiate a lawsuit, a plaintiff must first submit an administrative complaint with the state Civil Rights Department for review under the Fair Employment and Housing Act. Judge Daniel M. Crowley decided that the statute of limitations did not extend the deadline to file an administrative complaint, so he ruled that these four charges under the Fair Employment and Housing Act could not proceed due to this circumstance.
The plaintiff’s complaints under FEHA can’t move forward as they’re too old because she didn’t follow the necessary steps in a timely manner by submitting a CRD complaint within one year of the reported incident, which is a prerequisite for filing an FEHA lawsuit.
What Happened During This Alleged Incident?
Asta Jonasson asserts that in 2010, Diesel forcibly pressed her against a hotel room wall and exposed himself. Additionally, his previous assistant lodged accusations of retaliation, unjust dismissal, sexual misconduct, negligent oversight, and emotional distress infliction. Since these allegations fall outside the statute of limitations, they can be utilized for an administrative grievance, and as a result, they could proceed regardless of the judge’s order. Jonasson claims that the incident occurred while filming Fast Five, and she was let go shortly after the alleged act of violence.
Diesel has yet to publicly address the recent developments, however, through his legal representative, Bryan Freedman, he strongly refuted Jonasson’s initial allegations as soon as they were brought forward. According to his attorney, at that point in time, he denied the accusations.
To set the record straight, Vin Diesel unequivocally denies these claims entirely. He was not aware of this over thirteen-year-old accusation, made by an individual who worked for just nine days. There is undeniable proof that thoroughly discredits such baseless accusations.
Currently, Diesel remains set to appear in Fast X: Part 2, the much-anticipated 11th and concluding chapter of the Fast & Furious series, as of now. Although the project was initially announced some years back, no updates have been formally disclosed by Universal Studios. The reason for this delay might be related to Diesel’s ongoing legal case; however, potential complications could arise if the verdict does not support him favorably in court.
