The Neighborhood Ends After 14 Years: Max Greenfield’s Career Streak Concludes
As the eighth season of “The Neighborhood” approaches, it marks not only the conclusion of the CBS sitcom but also the ending of another significant streak: the show’s change in showrunners during its fifth season. Remarkably, despite this shift behind the scenes, the show continued to thrive in popularity. Now, three years later, the upcoming eighth season will bring an end to the successful run of “The Neighborhood”, wrapping up the adventures of Calvin, Dave, and their diverse families for good.
Despite the termination of Marty and Malcolm’s spinoff from “The Neighborhood,” the comedic world created by the show persists with Tracy Morgan’s upcoming spinoff series titled “Crutch“. While this marks the culmination of “The Neighborhood”, it signifies the end of an era for family sitcoms, which have been on-air since 2018. For one of the show’s stars, the finale means the conclusion of a significant career milestone. Fortunately, this doesn’t mean the end of opportunities for the talented actor.
Max Greenfield Has Starred In Network Sitcoms Every Year Since 2011
The Neighborhood Star Previously Played New Girl’s Schmidt
With the final episode of “The Neighborhood” season 8 approaching, it marks the first time since 2011 that Max Greenfield won’t be a main cast member in a network sitcom. Over the years, he has graced our screens in shows like “Hot In Cleveland,” “Happy Endings,” “The Mindy Project,” and “Bob’s Burgers,” as well as the revival of “Will and Grace.” From 2011 to 2018, Greenfield played Schmidt in “New Girl,” followed by his role as Dave in “The Neighborhood” from 2018 to 2025. His string of success is expected to persist until 2026, as season 8 of “The Neighborhood” is anticipated to conclude around April or May of the next year.
I’ve been fortunate to be part of “The Neighborhood” and its planned spinoff featuring Marty and Malcolm, playing the character Dave. But when it comes to “Crutch,” it doesn’t quite fit my character’s narrative. Therefore, it seems likely that my 14-year streak on CBS could be drawing to a close with the conclusion of the show. Although The Simpsons actors have played their roles for an impressive 35 years in a sitcom, my run is still an extraordinary accomplishment given my other professional endeavors.
Greenfield spent years making smaller TV guest appearances, eventually landing a major role in “Veronica Mars.” He also appeared on shows like “Gilmore Girls,” “Boston Public,” and “The O.C” (as a young Sandy Cohen), but it was his roles in “Veronica Mars” and “Ugly Betty” that boosted his popularity. Subsequently, he secured a five-episode role in the series “Greek.” This was followed by appearances on “No Ordinary Family,” “Lie to Me,” “Castle,” and ultimately, the notable part of Schmidt in “New Girl.
What’s Next For Max Greenfield After The Neighborhood Season 8
The New Girl Actor Now Stars In Netflix’s Running Point
In the finale of “The Neighborhood”‘s seventh season, it’s clear that there are still many tales left to be told as the show comes to an end. However, fans might not see Greenfield appearing in another network sitcom once the series concludes. Presently, Greenfield portrays Lev Levenson, Isla (Kate Hudson’s character),’s fiancé, in Netflix’s sports comedy series “Running Point.” In this show, he shares screen time with Justin Theroux, Brenda Song, Utkarsh Ambudkar, and Chet Hanks. Greenfield has received positive feedback for his performance during the first season of this program.
Actor | The Neighborhood Role | |
---|---|---|
Cedric the Entertainer | Calvin Butler | |
Max Greenfield | Dave Johnson | |
Tichina Arnold | Tina Butler | |
Beth Behrs | Gemma Johnson | |
Hank Greenspan | Grover Johnson | |
Marcel Spears | Marty Butler | |
Sheaun McKinney | Malcolm Butler | |
Skye Townsend | Courtney |
Nevertheless, while Running Point‘s score on Rotten Tomatoes is commendable, it’s important to mention that Max Greenfield hasn’t secured another network sitcom role as of yet for the future. However, with a year still ahead, he has the opportunity to further extend his impressive career run in this genre. It could also be reasonable if Greenfield decided to take a break from network sitcoms for a while. Regardless, The Neighborhood‘s season 8 will contribute to Greenfield’s already-impressive career tally of 14 years.
