Parks and Recreation star Nick Offerman breaks silence about death of castmate Jonathan Joss
In simple terms, Nick Offerman has spoken up regarding the sad demise of his co-star from Parks and Recreation, Jonathan Joss.
59-year-old actor, who has passed away, was fatally shot by his neighbor Sigfredo Alvarez Ceja in San Antonio, Texas, after a heated dispute, according to TMZ’s report.
Police apprehended Ceja not long after he left the crime scene, under suspicion of homicide. He currently remains in custody with a bail set at $200,000.
Joss’ husband has since claimed that the star’s death was a homophobia-fueled murder.
In five episodes of the cherished NBC sitcom, Jonathan impressively played the character of Chief Ken Hotate, appearing alongside fellow actors such as Offerman, Amy Poehler, Rashida Jones, Chris Pratt, Adam Scott, and Aubrey Plaza.
As an overjoyed admirer putting words to my feelings, I’d say: “I’ve been texting with the cast all day long, and we’re absolutely devastated. Jonathan, who graced us as our beloved Chief Ken Hotate, was such a delightful soul, and his departure has left an unfillable void in our hearts. This loss is truly heart-wrenching.

On Sunday, it was officially confirmed that Joss had passed away. Unfortunately, paramedics couldn’t bring him back to life after the neighbor, Sigfredo Alvarez Ceja, reportedly fired multiple shots at him following a dispute, according to allegations.
In a nearby street, the San Antonio Police Department apprehended the suspected perpetrator in his vehicle, following his attempt to escape. He is currently detained with a bail set at $200,000.
On the weekend, Jonathan, with over 9,000 followers on his social media platforms, posted a cheerful video inviting his fans to come meet him at Tribe Comics and Games located in Austin, Texas, for an autograph session.
On Sunday morning, Joss thanked fans on Facebook for helping him secure a ride back to San Antonio.
The most recent role credited to the graduate of Our Lady of the Lake University on IMDb was providing voiceovers for characters in the video game Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, which was released in 2023, alongside Keanu Reeves and Idris Elba.
In addition to his role, Jonathan lent his voice to the character Healing within the animated series Unplugged by Paul McComas and Holly Trasti. This production featured the late Louis Gossett Jr., the late Ed Asner, Christina Ricci, and Jeri Ryan.
However, Joss is particularly recognized for providing the voice of John Redcorn, a musician and healer, who carried on a 14-year relationship with news anchor Nancy Hicks-Gribble (Ashley Gardner), on Fox’s animated sitcom from seasons 2 to 13.
This past Friday, the captivating Native American actor made a surprise appearance at the King of the Hill reunion during the ATX TV Festival in Austin. He joined creators Mike Judge and Greg Daniels, along with actresses Pamela Adlon, Lauren Tom, and Toby Huss.

On January 23rd, it was a tragic day for Jonathan as his cherished dogs, all three of them, perished in a fire that devastatingly consumed his family’s home, a house constructed by his father in 1957.
In addition, Joss unfortunately had his vehicle destroyed in the fire, however, a GoFundMe campaign initiated by Logan Kostroun managed to collect $10,721 out of the target $15,000.
However, neighbors informed TMZ on Monday that his house was destroyed by fire as he reportedly tried to warm it using a barbecue grill, following claims that the city turned off his power due to safety concerns after declaring the property unsafe and unfit for habitation.
On a Monday, Tristan Kern de Gonzales’ widow, the one he married on Valentine’s Day, asserted that he was killed following two years of persistent harassment from openly bigoted individuals who were unable to accept our relationship.
Upon returning to our location to retrieve our emails, we found the skull of one of our dogs and its harness laid out clearly. This sight greatly upset both of us emotionally, as the South Carolina resident recounted on Facebook.
As we were engaged in our activity, a man suddenly appeared and began shouting hurtful, anti-gay remarks towards us. He subsequently drew a firearm that was hidden on his lap and discharged it. Unfortunately, neither Jonathan nor I were carrying any weapons.
He added, “We meant no harm. We were mourning. We stood united. When that man started shooting, Jonathan shoved me aside. He protected me from danger.
Tristan remarked, ‘At this point, my priority lies in preserving Jonathan’s heritage and paying tribute to the life we created together.’

Besides being known for other works, Jonathan is also recognized for portraying the character Chief Ken Hotate across five episodes in the NBC mockumentary series Parks and Recreation, airing from 2011 to 2015.
Joss had small roles in TV shows like Walker Texas Ranger, Charmed, ER, Ray Donovan and Tulsa King.
Additionally, he appeared in movies such as True Grit, The Magnificent Seven, Pocahontas 2: A New World Adventure, and Johnson Family Road Trip.
People have been sharing their grief on social media about the passing of Joss, as well as extending their sympathies.
In expression X, it was written, ‘What an immense grief. His unique abilities and vibrant personality will be greatly missed.’ Another phrased it as, ‘May he rest in peace. I am deeply saddened.’
A mourning fan posted, ‘Such a legendary voice, what a tragic loss. Rest in peace,’ while another wrote, ‘Rest in peace, Jonathan Joss. Known for voicing one of the most beloved and amusing characters in King of the Hill.’
