New “chaotic” sitcom that’s been compared to Friends is now streaming in the UK

A new series hailed as a Gen Z spin on beloved sitcom Friends is now streaming in the UK.

Under the title “Adults“, this comedy series focuses on a close-knit group of friends living in New York City, grappling with the challenges and confusions that come with defining what it truly means to be an adult, often finding themselves disorganized and struggling to maintain their lives.

This story seems quite similar to “Friends,” a well-loved 1990s series, and other shows with a comparable theme, such as “How I Met Your Mother” and the canceled prequel “How I Met Your Father.” Fans of these shows might find it appealing.

At the moment, “Adults” is available on Disney+ in the UK. The series features Malik Elassal, Lucy Freyer, Jack Innanen, Amita Rao, and Owen Thiele portraying a group of five friends who are particularly close, with their story set in Queens (though it was filmed in Toronto for practical reasons).

The program effectively portrays one aspect correctly about its setting – residing in a large metropolis, such as New York, is costly.

Instead of residing in Monica’s rent-controlled apartment situated in Manhattan’s West Village or the somewhat affordable Brooklyn depicted in “2 Broke Girls” and “Girls”, the characters in “Adults” find a solution to their housing crisis by relocating to Queens, specifically Samir’s (Elassal) childhood home.

Simultaneously, The New York Times commends the series for establishing its unique identity beyond the apparent similarities to Friends and for skillfully utilizing Charlie Cox’s physical humor, portraying Billie’s (Freyer) ex-high school teacher in episode six, originally starred in Daredevil.

Adults is streaming on Disney+. In the US, the series airs on FX.
