Heartbreaking last post of Race Across The World contestant Sam Gardiner revealing his ‘bucket list’ trip before tragic car crash death aged 24
The poignant final message posted by Race Across The World competitor, Sam Gardiner, before his unfortunate demise in a car accident at the age of 24, has come to light.
On Monday, a participant from a reality television show was traveling along the A34 in Gatley, close to Manchester, when unexpectedly, his vehicle veered off the road and tumbled over several times. Eventually, it came to rest on its side, as reported by Greater Manchester Police.
In the second series of the BBC show in 2020, Sam, accompanied by his mom Jo, appeared. However, it was just Sam who was in the vehicle. His family offered a heartfelt tribute through a touching statement.
It’s now clear that his latest Instagram post featured him relaxing on a breathtaking Australian beach, as the contestant.

He posed with parrots and showed off the incredible coastline when he visited back in January 2024.
Andrew, his father, shared the tragic news alongside Jo that their dear son, Sam, had passed away in a terrible accident. They were both deeply saddened by this loss.
‘Sadly, Sam parted from us prematurely, and though no words can truly encapsulate the brightness, happiness, and vitality he infused into our world, we cherish the recollections that set him apart as extraordinary.’
Sam was deeply cherished by his loved ones. In the roles of a son, brother, and nephew, he was known for his loyalty, humor, and unyielding defense.
In the year 2019, he participated in a global race titled “Race Across The World”, an experience that broadened his perspective on the thrill and discovery inherent in exploration and traveling.
‘He was willing to go wherever the trail might lead and he touched everyone he met on the road.
‘He found great happiness working as a landscape gardener on the west coast of Scotland.





Sam spread cheer, humor, and a touch of disorder wherever he ventured. He has left an immense void in our hearts.
“He’ll be deeply missed, yet his memory will bring us smiles, shared stories, and a love so profound it will never wane.
It’s profoundly disheartening to learn about the unfortunate incident involving Sam, according to a representative from the creators of Race Across The World.
It was clear to anyone who collaborated with him or simply observed Sam that this journey had an incredibly valuable and life-changing impact on him and his mother, Jo.
Sam embarked on a seven-week journey with enthusiasm, affection, and resolve, which led them to experience thrilling escapades from Mexico to Argentina. Their travels captivated onlookers, fostering admiration for their unique connection.
Following their appearances on Race Across The World, Sam has become a cherished member of our show’s family. On behalf of the BBC, production team, and fellow cast members, we wish to express our heartfelt sympathies to Andrew, Jo (his mother), William and Charlie (his brothers), Justine (his stepmother), his extended family, and friends at this difficult time.
According to his uncle, Johnny Gray, Sam temporarily left his job as a landscape gardener in Scotland and journeyed to Stockport, Greater Manchester for a family birthday celebration.

In the competition called “Race Across the World,” Sam and Jo focused on reaching South America faster than their competitors, all while adhering to a tight budget and without using mobile phones.
1. They didn’t finish the task because they ran out of funds, but he referred to it as a “transformative” journey instead.
2. Unable to finish the mission due to lack of funds, he nonetheless viewed it as an “impactful” adventure.
3. The duo couldn’t accomplish the task due to financial constraints, yet he portrayed it as a “significant” learning experience.
4. Facing financial difficulties and unable to complete the challenge, he considered it a “momentous” event in his life.
5. Despite not finishing the assignment due to lack of funds, he regarded it as an “inspiring” chapter in his life story.
During filming, Sam said: ‘Mum and I are very close – we often think or say the same things.
‘She has travelled a lot in her life, so I think it would be fun to do it with her.’
