In the third season of “The Bear,” Carmy moved further away from finding redemption, but there’s a chance for him to turn things around in season 4 if he changes just one choice. Previously, throughout seasons 1 and 2 of “The Bear,” Carmy managed to balance his professional aspirations with his mental wellbeing, thus avoiding the fate of Chef David. However, his narrative took a dismal turn in season 3 when he sought escape from his personal struggles by focusing on superficial goals within the culinary industry.
As he persistently pursued his narrow goals, he found himself drifting further away from what really mattered. The fate of his restaurant in the third season of “The Bear” was left unclear, suggesting either success or failure. Regardless of the future of Carmy’s restaurant, there is a chance for him to avoid his impending decline in “The Bear” season 4 by making a different choice.
Carmy’s Decision To “Get A (Michelin) Star” Was His Worst The Bear Season 3 Decision
Carmy Wants The Star For All The Wrong Reasons

In the second season of “The Bear,” Sydney floated the notion of aiming for a Michelin star at our new eatery. Having worked in restaurants that bore the coveted Michelin star before, I, Carmy, was all too familiar with the treacherous path to such culinary acclaim. The journey would be fraught with pressure and demands, potentially overshadowing the very passion for food that had brought us together in “The Bear.” Consequently, rather than endorsing Sydney’s idea, I cautioned that it was a trap we might want to avoid. Ultimately, I simply desired to create a thriving restaurant where my team and I could continue to celebrate our shared love for culinary delights.
Following the strained relationship between Carmy and Claire at the close of The Bear ‘s second season, there was a significant shift within him. Instead of being adverse to the idea of striving for a Michelin star, he found himself yearning for it in the third season. This change led him to conceive an unconventional plan: transforming their restaurant’s menu daily. This decision not only placed immense stress on his team but also took a toll on his own mental well-being.
As “The Bear” season 3 unfolded, it grew increasingly clear that pursuing “the star” was one of Carmy’s most regrettable choices. Though Jeremy Allen White’s character has made numerous doubtful decisions since season 1, “his choice to distract himself from the turmoil of his personal life with obsessive culinary brilliance undoubtedly belongs in the top tier of his most detrimental actions“. If he doesn’t alter his path in “The Bear” season 4, the situation may worsen for him and those connected to him.
Carmy Must Give Up On His Shallow Ambitions To Find Peace In The Bear Season 4
He Might Have To Shut Down The Bear To Be Able To Save Himself

If Carmy continues to pursue Michelin stars, he may never find salvation; instead, he should rekindle his love for food and remember why it initially stirred his passion. This shift requires him to acknowledge that he has no need to prove himself to others. It’s possible that he still harbors resentment toward his late brother for denying him a chance at their family restaurant. He might also find it challenging to shake off the demanding standards set by Chef David during their time together in the Michelin-starred kitchen.
Instead of seeking mental peace and fulfillment through external validation or fixation on hollow rewards, Carmy may need to find a different path. In fact, he might need to close his restaurant and revert back to running it as an ordinary sandwich shop. Regrettably, given his storyline in The Bear season 3, there’s a strong sense of worry about whether he will recognize the errors of his ways before it’s too late.
