The Office’s Jenna Fischer reveals the word that got her the role: “It was so scary”
Actress Jenna Fischer, best known for her role on The Office, disclosed that a specific event helped secure her spot in the show. She described the audition process as incredibly nerve-wracking.
From 2005 to 2013, spanning nine seasons, an actor portrayed Pam Beesly in the popular sitcom, known as “The Office.” This series, consisting of 201 episodes, chronicled the day-to-day antics of the staff at Dunder Mifflin Paper Company.
In an interview on the “Fly on the Wall” podcast, Fischer revealed that before her audition, she got some guidance from a casting director. Later, during one of the sessions, Fischer chose to make a daring move which was highly appreciated.

For approximately five years, Fischer had been trying out for casting director Allison Jones. When it came time for her to select the cast for The Office, their friendship was strong enough that he felt comfortable asking her, “Hey Allison, do you have any suggestions? I’m really keen on this role.
She advised, “Skip the glamorous appearance for your entry. Avoid being overly styled.” Then she added, “During the audition, I suggest you take risks and potentially be dull or uneventful,” explained Fischer, detailing that her audition was with producer Greg Daniels, who she was advising.
As a fan, I had been mulling over something in my mind when Daniels posed his question, “Do you enjoy working as a receptionist here?” My thoughts raced, but instead, I found myself momentarily speechless. Then, with a slight hesitation, I simply replied, “No.” I figured it would be more amusing to let him witness the flurry of words I chose not to utter than to actually voice any of them.
The actor mused, “Pam comes across as incredibly truthful, so she wouldn’t feign liking something. Yet, she’s not one to volunteer additional information either.” He continued, “Greg informed me that authenticity is what won me the role.
In a recent interview after his appearance in the revival of “Mean Girls“, Fischer shared that it was quite nerve-wracking to adopt such a daring strategy during the audition process. He suggested that sometimes, holding back can be more effective than aiming for the biggest impact.
