Overwatch 2 to get Unranked Stadium game mode next season: “This is intended to be a more casual Stadium experience.”

Overwatch 2 Stadium players will soon get to duke it out in a casual version of this game mode.

Starting with Season 16, the Stadium game mode in Overwatch 2 has been where players have been battling it out to move through various tiers, as Stadium comes equipped with its own ranked system by default. But next season, there might be a shift. In their latest update, the developers of this game mode announced that an Unranked Stadium mode is set to debut in Overwatch 2 Season 17.

Overwatch 2 Unranked Stadium to arrive in Season 17

Based on the creators’ announcements, Overwatch 2 Season 17 is set to deliver an abundance of thrilling Stadium content. This will encompass the Unranked Stadium game mode, enabling players to join queues alongside friends spanning various skill levels. Distinctive additions include best-of-five (Bo5) matches instead of the current best-of-seven (Bo7), ensuring swifter games without a mercy rule. Additionally, Stadium Powers will be distributed in the initial, third, fourth, and final rounds, and players can expect an enhanced economy with increased earnings.

By introducing an informal Stadium option, we can expect more players to leave matches. Fortunately, the developers have planned a replacement system called backfilling in the Unranked Stadium. Any player who steps in to fill a team vacancy will receive Stadium Credits and can spend them at the Armory before joining a game.

In addition to revealing details about the ranking system in Overwatch 2 Stadium, the developers also disclosed some information regarding its matchmaking rating (MMR). When the game mode initially debuted, an internal adjustment was made across all players instead of just newcomers, resulting in matches with wider skill disparities. However, the June 3rd update for Overwatch 2 Stadium will rectify this issue.
