Raye reveals she’s given up Instagram for a Bible app after crediting her faith for getting her through her darkest moments battling drugs and alcohol

Raye has stopped using Instagram and is now focusing on a Bible app, explaining that her faith helped her overcome a difficult period of struggling with substance abuse.

The 28-year-old singer has previously discussed her struggles with drugs and alcohol during her time with Polydor Records.

She recently spoke with The Times about how her Christian faith helped her get better.

She admitted to being really scared of public criticism and feeling vulnerable. While she knows not everyone will like her work, she’s confident there will be someone who does. She also feels that disconnecting from the internet has been a positive change, as not knowing everything has brought her peace of mind.

Hearing negative comments about my appearance, like someone saying I look bad in a dress, would really upset me. That’s why I prefer to limit my time online – it helps me avoid those kinds of hurtful remarks.

Raye uses a Bible app instead of social media and looks for answers there instead.

I’ve always admired how much she values her privacy online, but she’s incredibly sweet in person! She always makes an effort to greet fans, which I think is just wonderful – she really wants to be kind and make a good impression when we meet her.

Raye explained that after working so hard to reach this point in her career, she’s afraid of ruining her reputation, so she always makes an effort to be polite and greet people.

The singer recently discussed her journey to overcome addiction, expressing how proud she is of the person she’s become through commitment to sobriety and a disciplined lifestyle.

Raye openly discussed her struggles with drugs and alcohol in the February 2026 issue of ELLE magazine.

She expressed how proud she is of her personal growth, explaining that there was a time when she felt hopeless and didn’t want to continue. She acknowledged that many people experience similar struggles, but she’s now confident she would never give up on herself again.

The actress from Escapism revealed she started using drugs early in her career, saying she used codeine and MDMA, and also drank alcohol to cope with emotional pain.

With support from her family, especially her sister Lauren Keen, she overcame this difficult time and has stopped drinking to cope with problems.

Looking back on the process of making her second album, she noted a big difference from her first. She described writing much of ‘My 21st Century Blues’ while feeling detached and carefree, but she’s glad to feel more grounded and present while writing lyrics now.

She continued, explaining that she was happy with her current lifestyle. She’d discovered the benefits of self-discipline and moderation, which she found incredibly rewarding. While she still enjoyed a glass of wine occasionally, she no longer relied on alcohol to cope with difficult feelings or escape from problems.

As a lifestyle expert, I’ve often seen the power of creative expression in healing. I recently shared with Daily Mail how I used songwriting to work through some really difficult experiences from my past – things like dealing with substance abuse and recovering from assault. It wasn’t about making a statement, it was about personally processing the trauma and finding a way to move forward.

Raye explained she wasn’t afraid to tackle challenging subjects, and that writing about her personal struggles in her songs felt therapeutic.

She shared that she simply wants to openly discuss difficult subjects that people often avoid – topics she personally struggled with privately for a long time.

When you write and release songs, you simply hope people will listen and connect with them.

It’s almost like therapy – it helps you process difficult emotions and feel them in a new way.

‘For me is just very empowering, and I hope it can be medicine for anyone else who who needs it.’
