At long last, the anticipation for the upcoming “Star Trek” series has nearly come to an end. Soon enough, we’ll embark on a summer filled with fresh journeys if we subscribe to Paramount+. However, that’s not all that fans of Star Trek should keep their eyes peeled for in the 2025 television lineup.
As a dedicated sci-fi enthusiast, I can hardly contain my excitement over the upcoming series from Discovery star Shazad Latif, airing on AMC! Though it’s not about space travel this time, the essence of embarking on an exhilarating journey into the unknown is very much intact, and I eagerly anticipate watching this talented actor once more. Alas, his absence from Section 31 left me yearning for more of his performance – a void I’m confident this new show will help fill!
Shazad Latif Will Star In Nautilus, Which Is On AMC This Summer
Actor Shazad Latif assumes the role of Nemo in a reimagining of Jules Verne’s classic novel, 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, entitled Nautilus. This adaptation focuses on Nemo’s quest for vengeance against the East India Mercantile Company. In collaboration with a group of fellow inmates, they seize a state-of-the-art submarine and embark on an expedition to uncover a legendary Viking hoard. While it may seem far-fetched, the trailer promises that this show could be truly spectacular.
As a passionate movie enthusiast, I must admit it’s been quite a while since I last saw Shazad Latif as Ash Tyler on Star Trek: Discovery, and I’ve got to say, his acting talents have somehow slipped my mind. But with his upcoming role as the lead in Nautilus, stepping into the captain’s shoes we only glimpsed during Discovery, I’m truly excited! If he shines in this new series on AMC premiering June 29th, it could potentially pave the way for him to rejoin the Star Trek franchise, should the powers-that-be at Paramount take note of his stellar performance.
Latif’s Series Adds To The Excitement For Star Trek Shows This Summer
Besides enjoying Nautilus and all the excitement it brings, we’re thrilled about the comeback of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds for Season 3. The Season 2 finale left us on a suspenseful edge, and I can hardly wait to discover the fate of the crew as they confront the Gorn in their next battle.

Over the past while, I’ve been enjoying Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. What sets it apart from newer shows that I think could benefit from is a unique characteristic – a more intricate and complex narrative structure.
Looking ahead, there’s plenty to be excited about in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 3, with Season 4 already underway in production. Furthermore, we can anticipate the arrival of Starfleet Academy in 2026, promising a bright future for Trek once more.
Just as fans of Star Trek have found affection for shows similar to it, such as The Orville, I hope the same occurs with Nautilus. Shazad Latif, who was well-liked in the fandom during his time on Discovery as Ash Tyler, will appear in the new AMC series, and it shares the same sense of adventure as classic Star Trek. Since we’ve explored space more than the ocean, one might say that Nautilus will venture into directions that Star Trek hasn’t yet.
On June 29th, you can catch the debut of Nautilus on AMC, while Season 3 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will arrive on Paramount+ on July 17th. I can hardly wait for a weekly double billing of these two shows! If you’re interested too, don’t forget to mark your calendars and join me in the excitement.
