Critically Acclaimed Directors Explain Why They Left The Street Fighter Live-Action Movie
Two highly respected filmmakers share their reasons for departing from the Street Fighter live-action production, ultimately paving the way for Kitao Sakurai to take over the director’s chair instead.
In a conversation with The Playlist, Danny and Michael Philippou revealed that they parted ways from the Street Fighter film because of conflicts in their schedules.
Danny Philippou: The decision was simply about scheduling, yet it proved to be incredibly challenging. It was really tough. Capcom and Legendary were both fantastic, and we were all thrilled. However, our schedules just didn’t align. I was traversing Thailand, honing my Muay Thai skills, and immersed in the world. I encountered the real-life character that inspired Sagat, and crafted the fight sequences based on him.
Whenever I catch the mention of Street Fighter, it’s reminiscent of running into an old flame. The emotions persist.
