70s actress who starred in Paul Newman comedy classic and Melanie Griffith’s teen film debut stuns at 84

A beloved film from the 1970s made a rare public appearance in Los Angeles on Wednesday, exciting fans who spotted it.

The 84-year-old actress, best known for her role in the 1975 film Night Moves with Gene Hackman, still looked beautiful while out and about running errands.

Oh my gosh, she just radiates old Hollywood glamour, even when she’s just stepping out in something simple like all black! It totally reminds me of how amazing she was in Slap Shot – seriously, the way she played Paul Newman’s wife? Iconic. She’s just got that timeless star quality, you know?

She appeared with Whoopi Goldberg in the 1987 action-comedy Fatal Beauty, delivering another standout performance in her already impressive career.

As a longtime fan of Night Moves, I’ll never forget seeing a sixteen-year-old Melanie Griffith appear on screen with this incredible actress – it was a real standout moment!

So, can you name this ageless mystery woman?

If you guessed Jennifer Warren, you’d be absolutely spot on.

Warren’s career began long before her iconic roles in Night Moves and Slap Shot.

In 1972, she made her Broadway debut in 6 Rms Riv Vu, which earned her a Theatre World Award.

She also appeared in the short-lived Broadway production of P.S. Your Cat Is Dead!.

She’s known for her work in several films, including Sam’s Song (1969), Another Man, Another Chance (1977), Ice Castles (1978), Mutant (1984), and Steel Cowboy (1978).

Diane Warren proved her range as an actress, easily transitioning between different types of movies, like the dark thriller Night Moves and the hilarious comedy Slap Shot.

She also played the unhappy wife of a hockey player named Newman, a part that demonstrated her talent for combining comedy and heartfelt emotion in a movie that’s now a beloved classic.

In 1975, Warren was recognized as a rising star in Hollywood, being named one of twelve promising new actors in John Willis’ Screen World, Volume 27.

She acted in both the drama Another Man, Another Chance (1977) and the beloved sports film Ice Castles (1978), demonstrating her ability to succeed in different types of movies, from serious roles to family entertainment.

Her television career was equally varied.

I always loved seeing Warren pop up in all those classic shows! He was great on everything from comedies like The Bob Newhart Show and Hooperman, to dramas like Kojak, Cagney & Lacey, and even Murder, She Wrote. He really was all over the place, and I’d always be excited to see him in whatever show I was watching.

She also played Dinah Caswell in the 1982 TV movie Paper Dolls, which was so popular it led to a television series of the same name.

I’ve always been a huge fan of Warren, and it was amazing to watch her act throughout the eighties. But the nineties were a real turning point for me – she started directing, and it was incredible to see her talent expand in a whole new direction! It felt like a natural progression, and I’ve followed her directorial work ever since.

She directed her first film, The Beans of Egypt, Maine, in 1994. The movie featured Martha Plimpton, Kelly Lynch, and Rutger Hauer.

She then made Partners in Crime in 1998, again featuring Rutger Hauer, this time with Paulina Porizkova.

Because she was dedicated to helping women succeed in film, Warren co-founded the Alliance of Women Directors in 1997 and later became its president.

Warren is a well-known teacher who has shared his expertise at several universities, including Wesleyan, Johns Hopkins, UCLA Extension, and the University of Tel Aviv.

Elizabeth Warren married producer Roger Gimbel in 1976, and they had a son named Barney. He later became a writer and editor, just like his mother.

Sadly, Roger Gimbel passed away in 2011.
